What Youll Do
The Reliability Engineering team seeks a forward-thinking and self-directed team member to support the development and implementation of new projects that the team is working on. Reliability Engineering aims to be at the forefront of bringing machine learning large language models (LLMs) systems modeling and simulation to support predictive analytic capabilities in asset availability throughout the Y12 complex. This position focuses on identifying piloting and implementing innovative technologies. These technologies will enhance equipment reliability streamline data integration and support decision making through advanced analytics.
- Evaluate and implement emerging technologies to support Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) and plant directed research and development (PDRD) strategies (e.g. sensors drones AI/ML platforms LLMs).
- Collaborate with internal and external partners (University Industry Sub Contractors etc.) to prototype and scale new solutions that improve asset reliability and reduce unplanned downtime.
- Identifypotential areas for improvement including new PDRD projects and research proposals with respect to Reliability Engineering.
- Pursue funding opportunities to support these initiatives.
Supports the Reliability Engineering and CBM team with:
- Sensor installation and operational technology asset troubleshooting
- Software updates
- Server management
- Sub-contract statements of work

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering/Science/Information Technology discipline from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico the Washington Accord or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET with aminimum 3.0/4.0 cumulative GPA.
- Masters degree in engineering/physical science discipline with a minimum 3.3/4.0 cumulative
- PhD in engineering/physical science discipline with a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA.
- There is a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) requirement up to 4 years post-graduation at time of offer and confirmed by transcript. Beyond four years from graduation engineering experience will supersede GPA as a requirement for hire.
- In addition the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e. Baccalaureate in engineering or related scientific major 2 years job-related and 1-year nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).DOE 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. (Ref. DOE O 426.2A)
Preferred Job Requirements
- Experience with research PDRD program implementation and/or project management
- Strong technical background and the ability to work in cross-disciplinary teams in engineering research and information technology
- Bachelors or Masters Degree in Engineering Computer Science or related field.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications automation applications and database/server management
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
