IB PYP Reading Specialist - Bangalore
Overview
The IB PYP Reading Specialist plays a crucial role in enhancing literacy instruction within the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) in Bangalore. This position is responsible for leading and supporting the reading development of students aged 3 to 12 fostering a love for reading while ensuring alignment with the rigorous IB curriculum. The Reading Specialist collaborates closely with teachers administrators and parents to create a nurturing and engaging learning environment. Implementing evidence-based reading strategies the specialist is instrumental in designing professional development opportunities to enhance teachers instructional practices. By leveraging data-driven insights the Reading Specialist identifies student needs and provides targeted interventions contributing to overall academic success. Ultimately this role not only enhances student literacy skills but also champions a culture of reading throughout the school community.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement a comprehensive reading program aligned with PYP curriculum.
- Conduct assessments to gauge student reading levels and progress.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop effective reading instructional strategies.
- Provide targeted interventions for students struggling with reading.
- Facilitate professional development workshops focused on reading pedagogy.
- Create and maintain a resource library of reading materials for teachers and students.
- Monitor and analyze student reading data to inform instructional decisions.
- Engage parents with workshops and resources to support reading at home.
- Encourage a community-wide culture of reading through initiatives and events.
- Support teachers in differentiating reading instruction for diverse learners.
- Stay current with literacy research and best practices in reading education.
- Implement technology tools to enhance reading engagement and learning.
- Foster a positive reading environment within the school.

Required Qualifications
- Master s degree in Education Literacy or a related field.
- Certification in Teaching Reading or Literacy Specialist is preferred.
- Experience teaching in an IB PYP school or equivalent primary years setting.
- Proven track record of improving reading outcomes for students.
- Strong understanding of developmental reading stages.
- Experience with differentiated instruction and meeting diverse needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Adaptability in employing various instructional strategies.
- Knowledge of technology integration in literacy education.
- Ability to analyze data to inform instructional practices.
- Commitment to professional growth and lifelong learning.
- Experience in leading workshops or professional development sessions.
- Demonstrated passion for fostering a love for reading.
