Job Description Summary

The Department of Orthopaedics and Physical Medicine is seeking a candidate that will assist the research team (physician investigators and research coordinators) in the recruitment of research participants the collection of research data data entry and organizational tasks for studies conducted in the Department of Orthopaedics. The candidate will work on research studies which mostly focus on shoulder knee and elbow. The research assistant will be directly involved in the collection of questionnaire interview laboratory and other research data. This position requires exercising best practices in the patient management providing timely and accurately reports from research databases to PIs and research staff and provides support for the research investigators faculty trainee physicians and program coordinator/manager.

Job Description:

The Department of Orthopaedics and Physical Medicine is seeking a candidate that will assist the research team (physician investigators and research coordinators) in the recruitment of research participants the collection of research data data entry and organizational tasks for studies conducted in the Department of Orthopaedics. The candidate will work on research studies which mostly focus on shoulder knee and elbow. The research assistant will be directly involved in the collection of questionnaire interview laboratory and other research data. This position requires exercising best practices in the patient management providing timely and accurately reports from research databases to PIs and research staff and provides support for the research investigators faculty trainee physicians and program coordinator/manager.

Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and two years relevant program experience. A bachelors degree may be substituted for the required program experience.

Job Duties:

35%-Assist PI in several ambulatory clinics by administering questionnaires and consents to the patients; collect data needed for the study per the protocol; provide information to the study participants and answer study-related questions during their appointment.

25%-Contact study participants by phone or letter to schedule follow up visits post-surgery for shoulder knee and hip long-term follow up studies; Conduct outcome study survey data collection by calling participants by phone and ask outcome questions for the shoulder knee and hip long-term follow up studies; utilize Excel to maintain enrollment logs and follow up logs.

20%-Collect compile and input study data for study participants into specified databases; Manage study data and prepare reports as deemed necessary by study PIs and Research Coordinator.

15%-Travel with Research Coordinator when applicable to clinic sites and provide assistance with participant recruitment and data collection for research studies.

5%-Other duties as assigned.

(Infrequent) Ability to lower objects up to 15 lbs. from height of 36 inches to floor level unassisted. (Infrequent) Ability to push/pull objects up to 15 lbs. unassisted. (Infrequent) Ability to maintain 20/40 vision corrected in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand. (Frequent) Ability to see and recognize objects at a distance. (Frequent) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Frequent) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity with correction. (Continuous) Ability to hear and/or understand whispered conversations at a distance of 3 feet.
