We seek a talented individual to join the Porter Creek Secondary School team . PCSS is a comprehensive school with many hands-on opportunities for students. PCSS displays excellence in Athletics Arts and Academics. We are located on the traditional territories of the Kwanlin Dn First Nation and the Taan Kwchn Council. This position provides the opportunity to join a dynamic inclusive staff team dedicated to student success and understands the significance of working with families our community and First Nations to deliver on that promise. This .857 FTE Teaching role will involve courses in Anatomy and Physiology 12 Life Sciences 11 and other Science courses based on the strengths of the successful candidate.

School: Porter Creek Secondary

Location: Whitehorse

Position: Temporary teaching LAT

FTE: 1.0

Start Date:August 21 2025

End Date:June 12 2026

Assignment: Grade 8 and 9 levels

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor of Education or equivalent
  • Experience in alternate school environments (e.g. special needs students on the land programs)
  • Experience providing leadership case management and instruction as part of a multi-disciplinary team regarding programming for students with diverse learning needs and behavioural challenges
  • Experience with trauma-informed education is an asset
  • Certifications in outdoor pursuits are an asset
  • Experience with First Nations ways of Knowing Doing and Being to support and instruct students academically socially and behaviourally

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:

Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:

  • Training and/or experience in trauma-responsive educational practices
  • Experience teaching or providing culturally and developmentally responsive approaches for positive behaviour
  • Experience with rural/remote populations
  • Experience with transition planning and supporting students with complex exceptional needs
