Job Description

Effective August 1 2025


Tumbler Ridge Secondary School requires a vice-principal who is authentic innovative and leader will havea passion for impacting student achievement school culture and a desire to work proactively with students staff parents and the community while honouring diversity and position involves a significant teaching responsibility three out of 4 blocks each semester. The specifics of the teaching component will be determined with the successful candidate.

School District No. 59 (Peace River South) is located in the beautiful Peace region of northeast British serve 3600 students in 18 three major centers in the district are the communities of Dawson Creek Chetwynd and Tumbler Ridge. The districts core business is ensuring a Quality Education for each Student with the core value of Continuous Learning for have a strong belief in developing teachers meeting students where they are and providing a rich meaningful experience for all learners.

Tumbler Ridge Secondary is a 7-12 school with approximately 180 students. Tumbler Ridge is situated in the UNESCO Global Geopark that offers a plethora of outdoor activities that you can participate in all four seasons. It is a dream location for outdoor enthusiasts and is known for its hiking trails waterfalls and mountain biking trails.


IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE


ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS


  • Masters Degree in Educational Leadership Administration or related field.


If not currently in possession of such a degree the successful candidate must be willing to complete one within three years.


  • Must hold or be eligible to hold teaching certification in the province of British Columbia.


PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE


  • Record of exemplary teaching at variety of grade levels in more than one school.

  • School-based or district-wide leadership as a teacher and/or administrator.

  • Successful experience working with and implementing programs/intervention for students with diverse needs. Can provide examples of striving for equity for indigenous learners students with complex needs and any other identified student/group.

  • Ability to de-escalate situations and promote positive solutions to problems. Able to navigate difficult conversations with all partners.


LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES


  • Experience implementing academic social-emotional and behavioural supports and interventions that are appropriate to the needs of individual students.

  • Ability to foster maintain and restore healthy relationships that promote a positive school climate and culture that is welcoming honours diversity is pro-active and demonstrates a restorative approach to student discipline.

  • Demonstrates positive competencies in communication collaboration and teamwork. Values and promotes meaningful engagement with students staff parents and community.

  • Demonstrates ability to improve measured student success within the context of implementing district strategic planning goals.

Benefits in working for School District No. 59:

  • Relocation Allowance: Up to $5000 for out of district applicants (with submission of approved receipts).
  • Northern Travel Allowance: A Great Benefit at Tax Time! An amount of up to $4000 of the salary paid to the employee shall be designated as a Northern Allowance Travel benefit. This allowance shall be in effect within the guidelines of Revenue Canada as they exist and are changed by Revenue Canada from year to year and shall end when the Revenue Canada program ends. Regular part time employees allowance will be prorated proportionate to the hours worked.
  • Remote and Rural Allowance: Teachers working in School District No. 59 are eligible to receive a remote and rural allowance which is both an adjustment to the salary grid and an annual allowance of approximately $2519* per FTE. Teachers on call (TOCs) are not eligible to receive this allowance.
  • *The annual allowance may increase as defined within the Collective Agreement with the British Columbia Teachers Federation.
