Job Description

Position: Family Therapist

Location: 882 Maple Street White Rock BC

Hours: 35 hours/week (full-time permanent)

Salary: $42.23/hour

Start Date: June 16 2025


We are looking for a Family Therapist to join our Sources Child and Family Services team! This individual must be compassionate grounded and deeply dedicated to the welfare of children and families. They must have a Masters Degree in Social Work Counselling or a related field.

Description of Position:

Reporting to: Manager of Child and Family Services

The Family Therapist will provide therapy to families referred by the Ministry for Child and Family Development and Child and Youth Mental Health. Will assess formulate and carry out case plans for effective intervention with families dealing with a child or youth with mental health issues or with families referred by the child protection system. Intervention will range from brief to longer term. Will effectively communicate and case manage with MCFD and CYMH staff. This position is a strong team player and can effectively liaise with referring social workers and clinicians.

General Responsibilities:

  • Provides clinical services to children youth and families.
  • Provides case management and facilitates referrals to appropriate services and resources in accordance with clients individual service plan.
  • Maintains up-to-date and accurate caseload records according to established case management procedures.
  • Develops and delivers substance use education prevention and health promotion strategies and activities in local school and community settings.
  • Connects with MCFD social workers and CYMH clinicians involved with the client.

Program Specific Responsibilities:

  • Provide services in alignment with principles of Trauma and Resilience Informed Practice Cultural Safety and Humility Diversity and Inclusion.
  • Be able to serve individuals who identify as LGBTQIA2S.
  • Provide family couples and individual therapy to clients referred by MCFD.
  • Support parents to address child protection concerns and improve family functioning.
  • Provide therapy to youth and children referred by MCFD Child and Youth Mental Health. Expressive therapy such as play therapy or art therapy will be an asset in this role.
  • Refer clients to other resources to meet identified needs.
  • Capacity to work with ADD neurodiversity family dynamics and utilize motivational approaches is essential.
  • Participate in team meetings and Sources Performance Quality Improvement (PQI) processes.
  • Utilize Feedback Informed Treatment and Motivational approaches to effectively engage and meet the needs of clients.


Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in social work counselling or counselling related disciplines with extensive experience working with families.
  • Experience working with marginalized/mandated families.
  • Able to provide therapeutic services based on family systems theory and designed to strengthen families.
  • Play therapy experience is a considerable asset.
  • Ability to work within an attachment theory model is an asset.
  • Able to provide intake and assessment.
  • Able to offer a variety of interventions in order to alleviate symptoms and increase adaptive functioning.
  • Demonstrated ability to use computer programs such as Microsoft Office products.
  • Clear criminal record check.
