Job Description

  • Employment Type: Full Time Fixed Term to December 2027 (35-hour week)
  • Remuneration Level 8: $123044 - $% Superannuation
  • This role requires travel to school sites across regional NSW to support community engagement work and attend strategic planning meetings at the UNSW Kensington Campus each term.
  • Applicants based in remote areas such as Riverina will be considered.

Why This Role Matters:

The Culturally Nourishing Schooling (CNS) projectis currently transitioning from Phase One (2020-2024) to Phase Two (2024-2027) of the project. This involves an interstate expansion and collaborative engagement with researchers and communities in South Australia and Victoria along with New South Wales. The role involves working closely with the schools and their Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander staff and key local community organisations (such as local and regional AECGs and Lands Councils) as they work towards the development of a long-term educational partnership.

The Community Facilitator (Identified) will travel to school sites across regional NSW to support community engagement work and attend strategic planning meetings at the UNSW Kensington Campus each term. Applicants based in remote areas such as the Riverina will be strongly considered.

Accountabilities:

  • Strategically plan and manage the implementation of the projects community engagement processes.
  • Lead prepare and deliver focused professional support programs to assist school-based Aboriginal and/Torres Strait Islander staff to effectively engage in the CNS program.
  • Actively report on the progress of community engagement work to NSW Chief Investigator and provide strategic advice and influential insight to achieve project success.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including Chief Investigators professional and research staff and school contacts including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander school staff families and communities.
  • Capacity to travel to school sites across regional NSW to support community engagement work and attend strategic planning meetings at the UNSW Kensington Campus each term.
  • Work both independently and as part of the NSW project team. The candidate will also engage with the interstate Community Facilitators in SA and VIC for the purposes of collaborative strategic planning and support.


Skills and Experience:

To be considered you will hold Australian Working Rights or Australian Citizenship. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.

  • This is an identified position and applicants must be an Aboriginal and /or Torres Strait Islander person. Confirmation of Aboriginality will be required.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience OR equivalent competence gained through any combination of education training or experience.
  • Proven record of community engagement work with Aboriginal and /or Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities demonstrating good relations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading culturally responsive professional learning and an understanding of the Australian school system (desired).
  • Proven project management skills including ability to plan organise set priorities and meet deadlines with flexibility to alter priorities to meet changing demands.
