Position summary:
The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre a world-leading cancer research institution invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position. The laboratories Thomas Kislinger and Mohammad Mazhab-Jafari are seeking a highly motivated and skilled scientist with expertise in mass spectrometry to join our cutting-edge research program. This position offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of cancer research exploring the intricate mechanisms of protein interactions and post-translational modifications in cancer biology.

The successful candidate will lead a project focused on studying fatty acid synthase (FASN) protein interactions and post-translational modifications (PTMs) across diverse cancer cell lines. Utilizing advanced affinity-purification mass spectrometry (AP-MS) techniques and cryo-electron microscopy (cryoEM) the project aims to provide deep insights into the role of FASN in cancer. The candidate will have access to state-of-the-art mass spectrometry and cryoEM instrumentation and will receive comprehensive training in these cutting-edge technologies.

Duties:

  • Will be responsible for growing and maintaining cancer cell lines conducting affinity-purification experiments and performing mass spectrometry analyses to characterize protein interactions and modifications.
  • Will analyze complex datasets to identify key biological insights (e.g. identify PTMs from AP-MS data).
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate findings
  • Prepare high-quality manuscripts for publication in leading scientific journals.
  • Participate in the mentoring of junior lab members.
  • Additional responsibilities include presenting research findings at conferences.

Qualifications :

  • PhD in Biochemistry Molecular Biology or a related field must be obtained within the previous 5 years.
  • Expertise in mass spectrometry techniques particularly AP-MS.
  • Experience in cell culturing techniques is preferred.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and bioinformatics tools.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Familiarity with cryoEM is an asset but not required; training will be provided.
