Job Description

Associated Students UCLA as a responsive student-centered organization provides innovative and excellent services programs products and facilities for the entire UCLA community. ASUCLA was created when the campus first opened in 1919. Even in the early years ASUCLA meant student government student publications and student services such as a bookstore and cafeteria. Today ASUCLA has evolved into a four-part organization. These four entities collectively make up the largest student association in the country. The four entities are:
  • Undergraduate Students Association elected representatives of the undergraduate student body.
  • Graduate Students Association elected representatives of the graduate student body.
  • Student Media this includes the Daily Bruin the Bruin Life Yearbook and seven different magazines.
  • Services & Enterprises this division is designed to meet the everyday needs of students and the campus community. Major divisions include Student Union Event Services UCLA Restaurants UCLA Store UCLA Photography and Trademarks & Licensing.
Goals of Associated Students UCLA:
Products -To provide essential and convenient items that are easily accessible of high quality and low cost including but not limited to academic support food trademark merchandise and convenience products. In addition to continue evaluating the utility and convenience of all products to make improvements that will best serve the UCLA community.
Facilities -To provide a welcoming environment with as much space as possible for the optimal functioning of general academic support student governments student organizations and social gatherings. To have state-of-the-art venues for programming and efficient aesthetic and multi-functional commercial outlets.

Programs -To provide and support a diversified array of programming by prioritizing student-run student-initiated student-centered programming that reflects the needs of the campus community in order to enhance educational cultural and developmental social interaction.

Services -To provide an outstanding level of support to student government student groups and student programs through the state-of-the-art office and community spaces and by providing adequate financial resources and personnel to ensure an active and vibrant campus life.
BearWear Assistant Buyer/Office Manager:
Starting Salary Range: $49875 - $55000

Summary of Key Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the BearWear Buyer assists in the development and inventory management of defined product assortments to achieve sales gross margin and contribution plans including product selection assortment planning vendor negotiations marketing strategies and fiscal controls. Work with Outlying Store Managers to order and replenish apparel/gift merchandise for their stores. Assist the eCommerce department with building web assets to be displayed on both websites. Develop assortment and merchandise LVC and HSS products at the outlying stores as well as UCLA Ackerman Store.
In addition to buying responsibilities supervises administrative activities that support department operations. Administers the departments automated retail records systems: processes purchase orders chargebacks price changes and transfers; resolves related discrepancies/problems; monitors open-to-buy levels coordinates co-op for catalog. Assists in coordinating Division programs and events. Performs financial tracking and reconciliation. Develop a database to manage product information for the web. Interfaces with customers and vendors. Performs reporting/analysis of Division activities.
Participates in the taking and reconciliation of Physical Inventory. Develops and monitors office procedures and systems. Oversees general office duties such as word processing; data entry; answering phones; greeting visitors; scheduling meetings; ordering supplies. Hires schedules trains evaluates and counsels student staff in all activities. Assists in other areas of the Division including but not limited to concession and promotional events. Performs special assignments.
Qualifications:
Requires 2 years related management and/or buying experience in a high-volume retail environment that includes supervision. Experience must demonstrate: effective handling of multiple priorities and timelines; effective interface with diverse individuals/groups; attention to detail and accuracy in performing work; proficiency with PC word processing/spreadsheet retail computer systems and reporting. BA/BS required or the equivalent combination of education and experience. This position is included in the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) PULL NOTICE SYSTEM. ASUCLA will receive notices of any convictions for moving vehicle violations both on and off the job. Employment is contingent on the maintenance of a valid CA drivers license and good driving record as defined by the DMV and ASUCLA.

Directly and indirectly supervises part-time/student staff.
Physical Requirements:
Frequent walking sitting standing bending stooping reaching gripping pulling pushing; occasional lifting up to 30 lbs.
