Job Description

The Department of English atArizona State Universityinvites applications fora Teaching Professor (all ranks) position with a concurrent appointment as Assistant Director in Writing Programs. The anticipated start date is July is a full-time benefits-eligible non-tenure eligible appointment made on a fiscal year basis (July 1 June 30). Teaching Professors typically teach four classes per academic term. Because this position entails significant administrative/service the teaching expectation would be two to three classes per academic term.

Essential Functions of the job:

  • Contribute to the leadership team of ASUs Writing Programs assuming duties assigned by the Director of Writing Programs
  • Participate in relevant committee work associated with Writing Programs operations
  • Oversee operations associated with Writing Programs event
  • Manage operations associated with annual evaluations
  • Provide mentorship and oversight to Faculty and Graduate Instructors in the Writing Programs
  • Work with English ATF consortium to maintain appropriate transfer standards and protocol among Arizona public universities

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in English or Rhetoric and Composition or closely related fields in hand by the time of appointment
  • Evidence of strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and at leastthree years of experience teaching at the college level
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching courses in writing studies
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching inonlineor hybrid formats
  • Experience with Writing Programs Administration

Desired Qualifications:

  • Active participation in Rhetoric and Composition conferences and/or professional development associated with writing studies
  • Active research in writing programs and/or WPA
  • Experience developing online classes/curriculum
  • Evidence of excellence in teacher training and mentorship
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with faculty staff students and communities to advance the principles of the ASU Charter
