Job Description
Job Title: WCS (Warehouse Control System) SME
We are seeking a skilled WCS Engineer /Specialist to join our team responsible for implementing configuring and supporting the Warehouse Control System (WCS). The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Warehouse Control Systems (WCS) and a solid understanding of WMS and material handling equipment (MHE) like conveyors sorters AS/RS pick/put-to-light systems and with experience in e-commerce retail and a strong understanding of supply chain operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform quarterly health checks and system audits on the WCS.
Analyse system performance identify inefficiencies and provide actionable recommendations.
Collaborate with warehouse operations and IT teams to ensure seamless system functionality.
Provide technical documentation and summary reports post health checks.
Offer consultative support for any WCS-related improvements or changes.
Configure customize test deploy changes or enhancements to WCS software and to meet business requirements.
Integrate WCS with WMS systems (e.g. Blue Yonder Manhattan SAP EWM etc.) using APIs message queues or middleware & with Material Handling Equipment
Develop and maintain interfaces between WCS and hardware PLCs.
Monitor troubleshoot and support the WCS to ensure smooth warehouse operations and identity and resolve issues related to integration with other systems
Collaborate with vendors and internal IT teams on equipment control logic and automation workflows.
Monitor real-time system performance and resolve operational issues.
Support system upgrades testing and go-lives. Analyze system logs and data to identify improvement opportunities in automation flow.
Participate in cross-functional teams for warehouse layout throughput and design enhancements. Maintain documentation for processes incidents and changes and conduct training sessions for end-users and internal teams
Identify opportunities for system enhancements and process optimizations and stay updated with the latest WCS features and industry best practices
Required Skills and Experience:
- 3 5 years of experience with WCS platforms (e.g. Blue Yonder Dematic iQ Honeywell Momentum Vanderlande VISION etc.).
Proven expertise in Warehouse Control Systems (WCS) architecture diagnostics and maintenance.
Experience with leading WCS platforms (e.g. Dematic Honeywell Manhattan etc.).
Excellent communication and documentation capabilities.
- Strong understanding of Warehouse automation and MHE control.
- Experience integrating with WMS systems (e.g. Blue Yonder/JDA SAP EWM or Manhattan).
- Experience in REST APIs / SOAP APIs Message queues (e.g. JMS Kafka RabbitMQ) Middleware platforms (e.g. MuleSoft BizTalk) PLC Integration Protocols (Modbus OPC TCP/IP) Java / JavaScript / XML / JSON.
- Familiarity with SCADA systems industrial networking a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to read and interpret equipment logic flows and system diagrams.
- Experience in e-commerce retail 3PL or manufacturing warehouse environments.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Familiarity with SQL Java or scripting languages for system interaction and troubleshooting.
Nice to Have:
- Prior experience working in warehouse automation or logistics environments.
Familiarity with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
