Job Description

Title:Assistant in Instruction - Biology

Position Purpose:

The Assistant in Instruction in Biology will specialize in molecular biology organismal biology or ecology. The candidate will be involved in piloting experiments or learning activities for course-associated labs. This position will also assist with preparing laboratory activities in various BIO 195 (CURE) and Short Term courses in addition to occasional upper-level courses when applicable.

Job Duties:

  • Assist with preparing laboratory activities in various BIO 195 (CURE) and Short Term courses.
  • Assist with preparing occasional upper-level courses when applicable. Courses will range from molecular organismal to ecological including field-based and/or lab-based work and often will include new materials and learning activities.
  • Assist piloting experiments or learning activities for course-associated labs.
  • Support equipment maintenance and resource organization for teaching lab spaces.
  • Responsible for ordering and organizing supplies and equipment in stockrooms and teaching lab spaces.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education

  • Undergraduate degree in biology (or similar degree).
  • Drivers license required.

Experience

  • 4-5 years of experience preferred.
  • specialize in molecular biology organismal biology or ecology.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Commitment to equity and inclusion and serving the needs of a culturally and educationally diverse community.
  • Ability to manage biological organisms with guidance from current vivarium and greenhouse managers.
  • Basic microscopy and basic molecular skills such as pipetting and sterile technique.
  • Basic skills in chemistry including making buffers.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Comfort and willingness to work in both laboratory and field settings.
