Community Day Charter Public School (CDCPS) seeks a passionate School Nurse to work with our school teams renowned for closing the achievement gap. CDCPS manages multiple campuses across Lawrence MA and serves 1200 pre-kindergarten to 8th-grade students. We believe in providing our students with a rigorous student-centered academic program while investing in their social emotional and holistic well-being. CDCPS has dedicated teams to support our teachers and staff ensuring our students success.
Responsibilities (included but not limited to):Nursing Services:- Provide healthcare and first aid to students and staff on school grounds and as needed on field trips and other school related events
- Promote positive safety practices both within school buildings and on school grounds
- Responds to urgent and or/frequently encountered health issues providing counseling and crisis intervention when required
- Tailoring school nursing actions specific to student needs and coordinated with the efforts of other providers and school personnel; implements plans in a manner aimed at improving health and educational status.
- Manage/Administer daily prescribed medications or medically prescribed interventions
- Provide social emotional support to students as needed
- Responds to child neglect or abuse issues (as required by Massachusetts statute)
- Arrange and execute mandated student health screenings
- Maintains daily records of students seen in the health room
- Maintains current health records on each student
- Order health office supplies in partnership with Operations Managers
- Oversee maintenance of health related equipment
- Maintain first aid backpacks in the classroom
- Responds to medical emergency situations for the purpose of urgently and effectively addressing immediate safety concerns.
Collaboration:- Collaborate with the parent/guardian school staff and student where appropriate to develop and implement an individualized health care plan for the student
- Collaborate and maintain ongoing communication with teachers school staff leadership team and families
- Collaborate with school leadership and personnel in assessing and improving social and emotional climate of students and faculty
- Provide staff training on allergic reactions asthma epinephrine administration and information on student allergies on a yearly basis
- Attend after school family events such as Back to School Night etc.
- Attend Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and Section 504 Meetings as needed
- Participate as a team member by collaborating with other nurses
- Ensure that the school has an emergency plan which is communicated to personnel and students
- Implement state-mandated programs such as immunization surveillance and screening programs
- Communicate disease prevention and infection control based on current guidelines for universal precautions prevention of bloodborne pathogens exposure and hazardous medical waste disposal
- Acts as a resource in health education to school personnel students and families
- Provides coverage or support as needed for other school network nurses
Professional Practice:- Attend all medical trainings and professional development meetings as necessary
- Demonstrates current knowledge in such areas as (a) professional issues in school nursing (b) school and community health (c) communicable disease control (d) growth and development (e) health assessment special health conditions both chronic and acute (g) injury prevention and emergency care (h) health counseling health education and promotion (i) current adolescent issues
- Maintains certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and nursing license
- Obtains expert consultation supervision and peer review as needed
- Collaborates with local schools of nursing to provide student practical health as well as to obtain nursing education resources
- Perform other duties that may be assigned by supervisor
Qualifications:- Uphold a passionate belief in CDCPS mission values and educational model
- Hold current license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) or as a Licensed Nurse Practitioner (LPN)
- Bachelors in Nursing or Masters degree in Nursing from an accredited professional nursing program is preferred; Associates in Nursing is required
- Experience working with school-aged children is preferred
- Experience in health records administration for schools is preferred
