Job Description

  • Full-Time 12-month fixed-term role as a Clinical Research Orthoptist

  • Dynamic opportunity to provide technical support in a clinical and laboratory environment at the Sydney Eye Hospital

  • Base Salary $86511 - $% superannuation

About the opportunity

The Save Sight Institute (SSI) is a Centre of the University of Sydney within the Faculty of Medicine and Health located on the campus of Sydney Eye Hospital in Macquarie Street Sydney. It was established in 1985 and has grown to be one of the top three ophthalmic research institutes in Australia is internationally recognised as a centre of innovative research into ophthalmology and as a centre of excellence for clinical research learning and teaching.

The Clinical Research Orthoptist reports to the Clinical Research Orthoptist Team Leader to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of delegated clinical group activities. The successful applicant is responsible for implementation of pharmaceutical company sponsored and investigator initiated clinical trials following set protocols including performing retinal imaging and working in either an unmasked (unblinded) or masked (blinded) capacity.

For clinical visits the Clinical Research Orthoptist works predominantly with the Research Group clinical research team members under the direction of the Clinical Investigators to ensure that research outcomes are met and set protocols and checklists are followed for research patient visits.

The role includes a significant administrative load.

This position would suit a candidate wishing to gain experience in a unique dynamic and fast paced tertiary research environment where they will use their existing imaging and testing skills in clinical trials.

About you

  • Tertiary qualifications in orthoptics

  • Experience in applanation tonometry retinal OCT imaging & (stereo) retinal photography including FFA

  • Demonstrated above average competence using a Windows environment Microsoft Office applications particularly spreadsheets

  • Experience in the clinical trials setting including HREC requirements ICH-GCP study coordination certification in BCVA testing & retinal imaging; experience assisting in intravitreal injections ECGs and venepuncture/cannulation (desirable)

  • Current registration with the Australian Orthoptic Board (or registration currently in submission - in this instance date of registration submission will be required in position application)

  • Current Working with Children Check Clearance

The successful incumbent will have excellent communication skills to interact effectively with a broad range of people. Good organisation skills are also essential to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a busy environment.
