Job Description

Special Education Teacher

Harrison Elementary

1.0 FTE

2025-2026

Duties

The special education teacher is responsible for the instruction and supervision of students. The teacher identifies the needs of students through continual assessment and writes individual instructional plans based upon individual student needs. The use of a variety of methods and materials to implement instruction is required. Exceptional reading instruction language acquisition skills and math pedagogy is also necessary.

The teacher identifies the needs of students through continual assessment and writes individual instructional plans based upon individual student needs. The use of a variety of methods and materials to implement instruction is required. Exceptional reading instruction and language acquisition skills and math pedagogy is also necessary.

A teacher in this position must:

Be familiar with Oregon Standards

Create a flexible program and class environment favorable to learning and personal growth which may include mixed age classrooms

Establish effective rapport with students

Motivate students to develop skills attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for continued education

Establish positive relationships with parents and colleagues

Assess student progress and apply assessment data to instruction

Create enrichment activities for students that may include before and after school programs outdoor school activities and other special programs that support student learning.

Maintain all appropriate records to satisfy Individual Education Plans

Facilitate IEP meetings with parents and staff

Qualifications

Qualified applicants must have a current and appropriate Oregon Teaching License and be Highly Qualified. All candidates must have training and/or experience with integrated curriculums technology skills collaboration and teaming skills and be able to employ a variety of instructional strategies. Special education endorsement and experience preferred. Preferance will be given to biligual canidates.

Salary

Salary will be determined by the experience and degree level in accordance with the current salary schedule.
