Job Description

About the Role

As Clerk to the Board of Trustees you will play a vital part in the effective governance of the Northwest Academies Trust. You will support the Board and its subcommittees by managing meeting logistics ensuring statutory compliance and maintaining accurate governance records. This is a flexible term-time role with some evening meetings requiring excellent attention to detail discretion and a clear understanding of governance standards.

Currently we have eleven primary schools and one secondary school across three counties with the Kingsbourne Academy in Nantwich due to open in September 2026.

The central team works in collaboration with school leaders and trustees to ensure the delivery of high-quality education effective governance and operational excellence.

  • Prepare and distribute meeting agendas and accurate minutes.
  • Provide advice on governance procedures and statutory duties.
  • Maintain trustee records terms of office attendance logs and declarations of interest.
  • Support regulatory submissions including the DfEs GIAS portal.
  • Ensure confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

Person Specification

  • Experience as a clerk PA or administrator with governance knowledge desirable.
  • Strong writing and organisational skills.
  • Familiarity with education or public sector governance is a plus.
  • Understanding (or willingness to learn) relevant frameworks like Governance Handbook and Academy Trust Handbook.
  • Ability to attend evening meetings.
