QUALIFICATIONS:
- Massachusetts licensure as an Administrator of Special Education- All Levels (required)
- Massachusetts licensure as an Asst. Principal/Principal PreK-8 (preferred or will obtain within 3 years)
- MA DESE SEI Administrator or Teacher endorsement (preferred)
- Massachusetts licensure as Early Childhood PreK-2 Elementary 1-6 or Special Education (required)
- Minimum of five (5) years of Special Education teaching and/or related experience at PK - 6 grade span (required)
- Three (3) years of administrative experience (preferred)
- Masters degree or higher from an accredited college or university (required) in special education administration education leadership (preferred)
- Safety Care trained or willing to be trained
- Demonstrate understanding of special education laws timelines and due process
- Demonstrate understanding of student discipline laws
- Demonstrate understanding of the principles of literacy instruction assessment differentiated instruction and successful teaching of students of all abilities
- Demonstrate understanding of special education preschool regulations instructional needs and systems management
LEADERSHIP QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrates strong knowledge of federal state and local mandates as related to students with disabilities
- Demonstrates ability to support mentor and model best practices and instructional strategies specifically designed for students with disabilities
- Demonstrates strong advocacy skills for all students including students with disabilities
- Develops collaborative professional relationships with other school and district administrators
- Displays initiative resourcefulness and effective problem solving
- Reflects and communicates in a timely and clear manner; writes and speaks effectively
- Organizes multiple tasks delegates when appropriate and follows through
- Plans and facilitates relevant professional development that aligns with school and district initiatives
- Demonstrates excellent organization and communication skills
- Such other alternatives as the Superintendent of Schools may deem acceptable and appropriate
SPECIAL EDUCATION BUILDING ADMINISTRATOR (SEBA) RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee/manage an assigned caseload of special education students and the implementation of IEPs in multiple settings (e.g. inclusive self-contained and pullout settings)
- Analyze student data and develop specific action plans for improvement to be used at the district and school levels
- Provide student cohort vertical tracking and school to school transition plans
- Participate in meetings hosted by central office administrators
- Develop and ensure oversight of service delivery that consistently supports staff and students
- Collaborate with district personnel around eligibility determinations and review of criteria for special education categories
- Plan and facilitate relevant district professional development that aligns with initiatives
- Facilitate IEP meetings using a strengths based and family centered approach
- Coordinate with students special education team to ensure all documents are completed in a timely manner (according to state local and school policies and procedures) prior to all TEAM meetings
- Lead building based teams and collaborate with district colleagues around best practices in the diversified field of special education including providing professional development in specialized programs methodology and assessment
- Supervise and evaluate assigned personnel including teachers related service providers and teaching assistants according to district guidelines
- Ensure IEPs are developmentally appropriate curriculum/standards-based and relevant to individual students
- Facilitate workshops/meetings for parents/guardians as well as identify resources for parents/guardians of students with special needs
- Participate in school and district hiring of new special education staff
- Attend and engage with the Instructional Leadership Team
- Other administrative duties as assigned by the principal
ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the Principal in the general administration of the school
- Assist with MTSS practices and coordination of the Instructional Support Team (IST)
- Assist in management of student behaviors and discipline
- Assist in the evaluation of staff members and programs
- Support a positive school-wide culture
- Facilitate school-wide Data Team meetings
- Schedule and oversee the administration of standardized assessments
- Assist in preparation of building based schedules
- Assist in compiling the annual budget requests and in ordering/receiving procedures
- Assist in the preparation of local and state reports
- Facilitate positive school-community relations
- Attend and assist in evening programs
- Participate in hiring of new building based staff
- Serve as Principal when the Principal is absent
- Attend and engage with the Instructional Leadership Team
- Such other responsibilities may from time to time be assigned by the Principal.

SALARY: In accordance with FEA Unit B Contract
