    Program Teacher

    Per Diem (with statewide travel)
    Non-Exempt / Litchfield
    Position is open until filled


    Reports to: The Program Teacher works under the supervision of the Director of Grants & Special Programs.

    Job Description:
    Program Teacher will support academic enrichment/ special programs by providing hands-on instruction/teaching of project-specific curricula and activities; work directly with students enrolled in programs; and assist the program staff with varied tasks needed to successfully carry out each program day.

    Major Responsibilities:
    • Teach/instruct participating students on project-specific lessons and activities at various place-based locations
    • Support student learning and individual student needs
    • Liaise with school and district personnel to keep them informed and ensure compliance with school and district protocols and procedures
    • Supervise students at all times including while traveling to and from school and program sites
    • Accompany students on student transportation vehicles (bus or van) and supervise students at all times while in transit to and from program locations
    • Communicate with parents/ caregivers regarding program logistics changes and individual student needs
    • Communicate with program staff regarding individual student needs and scheduling changes
    • And all other duties requested by management
    Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
    • Ability to use computers for purposes of communication and creating and distributing permission forms
    • Demonstrated high level of interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written
    • Ability to inspire students to engage meaningfully in all program activities
    • Ability to teach or instruct students of all academic levels different ages and from diverse backgrounds
    • Ability to work collaboratively with other program teachers site staff and the Grants & Special Programs team
    • Ability to problem solve
    • Willingness to respond to unanticipated emergencies including student health concerns that might occur during a program
    • Willingness to spend time outdoors in natural settings in all weather conditions
    • Willingness to cross train and learn new informal teaching lessons and activities
    Qualifications/Requirements:
    • Experience working withstudents of all ages either in classrooms or in informal learning settings (such as nature centers)
    • Experience teaching and/or providing paraprofessional services to diversestudents
    • Basic computer skills including Word and ability to use email effectively

    Physical Requirements:
    Must be able to complete these requirements with or without accommodation:
    • Hear students including in outdoor settings
    • Speak with/ respond to students parents other program teachers program staff and school administrators
    • Sit/travel on a school bus or van for up to two hours
    • Stand at program sites for up to five hours
    • Walk to various locations at program sites (including outdoor sites with uneven ground/flooring) for up to five hours
    • Lift program supplies weighing up to 20 lbs. each program day including snacks beverages learning materials and student backpacks

    Travel:

    Travel every program day from school to different program sites throughout the state depending on specific program.

    Supervises:

    No supervisory responsibilities
