Department of Public Safety - Office of the State Fire Marshall

Job Class Code: 0603
Grade: 25/Professional & Technical
Salary: $54412.80-$76315.20/Annually
Location: Statewide Augusta Headquarters

Opening Date: May 22 2025

Closing Date: June 6 2025

The primary purpose of the Senior Planner position manage an ongoing assessment of Maines fire burden and fire service policy by conducing detail analysis and research on specific fire burden issues and fire service policy using State Fire Marshals Office other public and private section data.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Also leads the development legislative policy and rulemaking activities.
  • Develops resources internal and external relations ranks and prioritized research and public education efforts and makes public presentations.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the statewide fire data collection system MEFIRS.
  • May assist with projects and planning tasks assigned by the Fire Marshal.
  • State-wide travel and occasional out of state travel.
  • Work is performed under limited supervision.

Skills or knowledge required:

  • Knowledge of the principles practices methodologies and objectives of governmental planning
  • Knowledge of the structure and functions of state regional and local government
  • Ability to evaluate governmental planning problems and recommend solutions
  • Ability to plan oversee and evaluate the work of associate planners
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to form and sustain long-term and productive collaborative relationships inside and outside of State government.

Minimum qualifications:

A Bachelors Degree in assigned area and four (4) years of related work experience. Equivalent related experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
