About the role:

The primary role and responsibility of the Instrument Technician is to ensure the effective and efficient processing of all reusable medical devices within the policy and guidelines of the Sterile Processing Centre and State and National Standards. All Instrument Technicians are members of the multidisciplinary Sterile Processing Centre team.

Work in all areas of SPC (including Endoscopy suite) to provide the full range of reprocessing services including but not limited to:

  • Decontamination

  • High Level Disinfection

  • Endoscopy

  • Checking RMDs and setting of instrument trays

  • Packaging (Sterile Barrier System)

  • Sterilizing

  • Sterile storage

  • Ensures resources equipment and processes checked tested and maintained

  • Accurate and complete documentation as per operational requirements

  • Identify trouble shoot and report variances

The classification range for these positions will be IN1 - IN4 ($57002.40 - $73502.00 per annum pro rata for part time). Or casual hourly rate ($28.85 - $37.19) plus 25% loading.

Your Contribution

The Sterile Processing Centre is responsible for the sterile reprocessing of reusable medical devices (RMDs) in accordance with AS/NZS 4187 / AS 5369 and other local State and National guidelines/policies.

The Sterile Processing Centre as part of St Vincents Perioperative Services provides a critical service enabling and supporting the functioning of St Vincents operating theatres & endoscopy suite. The department operates 24 hours a day and 52 weeks of the year.

The Sterile Processing Centre is responsible for the sterile reprocessing of reusable medical devices (RMDs) in accordance with AS/NZS 4187 and other local State and National guidelines/policies.

The Sterile Processing Centre as part of St Vincents Perioperative Services provides a critical service enabling and supporting the functioning of St Vincents operating theatres & endoscopy suite. The department operates 24 hours a day and 52 weeks of the year.

POSITION PURPOSE

The primary role and responsibility of the Instrument Technician is to ensure the effective and efficient processing of all reusable medical devices within the policy and guidelines of the Sterile Processing Centre and State and National Standards. All Instrument Technicians are members of the multidisciplinary Sterile Processing Centre team. A Grade 1 Instrument Technician:

  • Works under direct supervision of Grade 5 Instrument Technician with mentoring and support from Grade 3 or 4 Instrument Technicians
  • Complete a mandatory orientation program for the first 3 months of commencing duties under the direct supervision of an Instrument Technician Grade 5


POSITION DUTIES

  • Works under direct supervision of a Grade 5 Instrument Technician with mentoring and support from Grade 3 or 4 Instrument Technicians

  • Work under supervision with support in all areas of SPC (including Endoscopy suite) as an beginning practitioner to provide the full range of reprocessing services including but not limited to:

  • Participates in mentor/preceptorship programs
  • Ensures resources equipment and processes checked tested and maintained

  • Participate in ongoing education by attending training and study days as required.

ESSENTIAL REGISTRATION LICENSE OR QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum three (3) months experience (full time equivalent) working as an Instrument Technician
  • Does not hold an Instrument Technician Qualification or holds an Instrument Technician Qualification but has less than twelve (12) months post qualification experience (full-time equivalent) as an Instrument Technician. An Instrument Technician qualification refers to either of the below:
    • Certificate III in Sterilisation Services (HLT37015)
    • Certificate IV in Sterilisation Services (HLT47015)
    • An equivalent qualification awarded by a registered training organisation recognised by the Employer as such.

SELECTION CRITERIA
