Job Description

Reports to: Head of School


General Description:

Melvin H. King South End Academy (MHKSEA) is a K-12 therapeutic day school dedicated to supporting students with emotional behavioral and learning needs. The school offers three distinct programs:

  • Melvin H. King Elementary: Serving students in grades K-6 at the South End Academy site 90 Warren Ave. with school hours from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Melvin H. King Middle & High School: Serving students in grades 7- 12 at the South End Academy site 90 Warren Ave. with school hours from 7:20 a.m. to 1:40 p.m.
  • Melvin H. King Prep: Serving students in grades 9-12 at 97 Peterborough St. with school hours from 7:20 a.m. to 1:40 p.m.

The Clinical Program Director will work collaboratively with other administrators partners Clinical Coordinators the Instructional Coach for Clinical Coordinators district liaisons caregivers and students to support the planning development and implementation of trauma informed school practices and social emotional therapeutic services that support students. The Clinical Program Director for Melvin H. King South End Academy oversees the work of the Clinical Coordinators across all programs and provides direct supervision support professional development and other supports. The Clinical Program Director will work as a member of a collaborative leadership team to ensure delivery of high quality social emotional and therapeutic intervention across all MHKSEA programs.


Responsibilities:

  • Provides clinical supervision and support to Clinical Coordinators
  • Consults with IEP teams in preparation for Annual Reviews and Evaluation meetings as needed to support determining appropriate ongoing services for students
  • Stay current with best practices and research; share information and knowledge withschools through various means
  • Collaborates with the School Leader Clinical Coordinators Program Directors Assistant Program Directors on therapeutic service delivery in their school to modify/implement SEL and therapeutic supports
  • Collaborate as a team member to ensure delivery of trauma informed school practices using an MTSS framework with high quality interventions including Behavior Support Plans
  • Plans and facilitates staff professional development
  • Performs other duties as requested by the Principal/Head of School.


Qualification Required:

  • Masters Degree in social work counseling or other related field
  • Licensed Independent Certified Social Worker (LICSW)
  • MA DESE School Social Worker/School Adjustment Counselor License (All Levels)
  • Five (5) or more years of experience supervising social work services including coaching and evaluating staff
  • Minimum of three (3) years professional experience in an urban setting with diverse populations with demonstrated knowledge of the impact of stresses of poverty on students and their families
  • Demonstrated knowledge of legal protections for all students and particularly those with disabilities students experiencing homelessness and system involved youth
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning theory and social & emotional learning competencies
  • Proven experience developing innovative student programming incorporating the best practices in the field autonomously
  • Compassionate and inclusive leader with superior interpersonal skills including but not limited to the ability to express disagreement tactfully sensitively and with cultural insight as well as ability to succession work and collaborate with diverse groups of people
  • Demonstrated effective organizational oral/written communication and planning skills.
  • Proven growth mindset orientation
  • Highly proficient in Google Suite. Skilled in the use of technology to support effective communications presentation design and delivery and data management
  • Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment

Qualifications Preferred:

  • Fluent in one of BPS official languages: Spanish Creole (Cape Verdean) Creole (Haitian)Chinese Vietnamese Portuguese or Somali
  • Familiarity with Boston and Boston Public Schools

Terms: BASAS Group 10 208 days plus differential for required additional time and work
