About the Opportunity
We are currently seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Preconstruction Manager Mechanical Systems to join a leading general contractor recognized for excellence in engineering-driven project delivery. This role offers the opportunity to lead complex mechanical preconstruction efforts across diverse commercial and institutional projects. The ideal candidate will bring both strategic insight and technical expertise in HVAC plumbing and mechanical systems to support project acquisition and delivery planning.


Key Responsibilities
  • Lead stakeholder and client meetings to define project requirements and guide mechanical preconstruction strategy.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients engineers vendors and internal teams.
  • Develop conceptual and detailed mechanical system budgets based on design narratives schematics or construction documents.
  • Evaluate building and mechanical system requirements to prepare accurate estimates and bid packages.
  • Draft preliminary mechanical system layouts (ductwork piping plumbing) to support budget planning and scope definition.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure technical accuracy of drawings specifications and constructability.
  • Review designs for compliance with codes and standards; identify design or cost-saving alternatives early in planning.
  • Source and validate vendor pricing and system costs for budgeting and bid purposes.
  • Coordinate closely with design and construction teams to align documents and specifications with cost targets.
  • Support logistics planning and trade coordination for mechanical systems during construction pre-planning.
  • Oversee timeline alignment and integration with structural architectural and electrical disciplines.
  • Mentor junior staff on preconstruction processes tools and industry best practices.
  • Support troubleshooting and commissioning planning during system start-up phases.

Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering Architectural Engineering or a related technical field.
  • 5 years of experience in mechanical preconstruction estimating or design.
  • Background in HVAC plumbing and piping systems with proficiency in sizing design and code compliance.
  • In-depth understanding of applicable building codes: IBC IMC IPC IECC IFGC.
  • Working knowledge of SMACNA standards for ductwork and piping system design.
  • Hands-on experience reviewing architectural structural electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Skilled in evaluating and selecting mechanical equipment using manufacturer specs and catalogs.
  • Familiarity with cost estimating tools (e.g. QuickPen/Trimble) is a plus.
  • Excellent technical communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and general PC-based productivity tools.
  • Team-oriented mindset with strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
  • Safety-minded detail-oriented and able to perform under pressure in deadline-driven environments.
