Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Data Center Technician to join our data center operations team. This role involves installing troubleshooting and maintaining low voltage systems and networking infrastructure within a fast-paced and high-security data center environment. The ideal candidate has experience working with low voltage cabling fiber optics and network equipment installation adhering to industry standards and safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities: - Install terminate and test low voltage cabling including Cat5e/6/6A fiber optic and coaxial cables in data center environments.
- Install and mount networking equipment such as routers switches patch panels and firewalls in server racks.
- Perform cable management labeling and patching ensuring all work adheres to established standards and best practices.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with low voltage cabling and networking equipment performing tests and inspections to ensure optimal performance.
- Collaborate with data center engineers electricians and other team members to coordinate installations and upgrades.
- Read and interpret technical blueprints schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Maintain high standards of safety and security following all data center protocols and guidelines.
- Keep accurate records of installations updates and repairs performed.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and technologies relevant to low voltage systems and networking hardware.
Qualifications: - High School Diploma or equivalent; technical certifications are a plus (e.g. BICSI CompTIA Network).
- Experience installing and maintaining low voltage cabling and networking equipment preferably in a data center environment.
- Proficiency with cable testing tools and network equipment.
- Strong understanding of industry standards such as ANSI/TIA/EIA and BICSI.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and wiring diagrams.
- Familiarity with power distribution units (PDUs) and server rack configurations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in physically demanding environments including confined spaces and high places.
- Willingness to work flexible hours including nights and weekends as needed.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience with hyper-scale data centers.
- Experience with structured cabling systems.
Work Environment: - This position requires working in a climate-controlled data center environment with regular physical activity including climbing ladders and working with tools and equipment.
