SUMMARY

The Benefits Specialist supports the Center for Human Services (CHS) mission by assisting in managing daily operations within the Benefits Department. This role involves ensuring employees are well-informed about their benefits and can easily access them maintaining precise records coordinating the enrollment process and aiding in compliance initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for Benefits Administration by:

  • Assisting in management of various employee benefit programs including retirement plans medical dental vision life insurance temporary disability and wellness programs.
  • Communicating with staff regarding benefits including guiding employees through self-enrollment process and other applications.
  • Ensuring employee benefit filing systems are accurately maintained and benefit changes are promptly and correctly entered in the HRIS system for payroll deductions.
  • Reconciling benefits with payroll each pay period to ensure accuracy.
  • Assisting with the monthly billing and reconciliation.
  • Addressing benefits inquiries promptly and equitably ensuring courteous resolution.
  • Willingly accept and complete special assignments or duties as requested.

Maintains compliance as needed by:

  • Ensuring compliance with all regulations and laws governing benefits programs.
  • Maintaining knowledge of the agency and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Completing training as required and seeking technical training opportunities for applications specific to the business needs of the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Associate degree in a related field plus two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience to equal four years.
  • Intermediate Excel skills that include the ability to combine and manipulate large sets of data.
  • Must provide proof of valid drivers license and personal valid vehicle insurance.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • ACA FMLA and COBRA compliance experience preferred.
  • Project management experience time management and organizational skills are preferred.
  • Experience with Paycom or similar HRIS/Payroll platform(s) is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to operate a computer.
  2. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus while using the computer.
  3. The employee is occasionally required to stoop kneel or crouch while filing. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to ten pounds.
