Job Description

Job Overview

The Specialized Instruction Facilitator Program is responsible for providing leadership training and support for the implementation of specialized approaches in autism services instruction. This position will allow the specialized instruction facilitator to work side-by-side with classroom teachers special education teachers and other staff for training modeling observing monitoring and evaluating the delivery of specialized approaches.

Roles and Responsibilities

The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; work may differ and other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate.

  • Teaches models facilitates and builds teacher capacity in several schools to provide specialized instructional and behavior strategies using evidence-based approaches.
  • Assists teachers in collecting and analyzing data; conducts fidelity checks to provide feedback for providers and to assist in data collection; and facilitates the process to identify appropriate strategies between identified needs and specific instructional and behavioral strategies.
  • Works directly with teachers in a school providing classroom-based demonstrations collaborative and one-on-one support and facilitating teacher inquiry and related professional development as well as providing small and large group presentations and training.
  • Collaborates with school-based and central office staff to provide professional development engages in ongoing work in furthering the tiered approach for specialized instruction for students with autism and assist in developing action plans to support students across settings who require specialized instruction.
  • Provides consultation to focus on enhancing teachers ability to provide instruction that builds students sense of engagement ln the ownership of learning and supports their success in division initiatives.
  • Works with administrators and teachers to collect and analyze data interpret and use it to guide instructional decisions.

Qualifications

Below are the minimum qualifications for this job. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are also acceptable.

Education

Bachelors Degree required

Experience

Minimum of three years of experience in the field of Special Education and students with Autism

Licenses and Certifications

  • Holds or is eligible for a Virginia Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement in one more areas of Special Education preferred
  • Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) License preferred

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience with students with disabilities
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with effective evidence-based methodologies
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills interpersonal skills and professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with school personnel and members of the community

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly talking expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. The employee must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately loudly or quickly. The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift carry push pull or otherwise move objects.
