TheNorth Carolina Department of Adult Corrections (NCDAC) is the largest state agency and is responsible for the care custody and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons Correction Enterprises Division of Community Corrections and Reentry Programs and Services.

The NCDAC / Support Services / Division of Engineering Construction and Maintenance (DECM) is recruiting for an energized and collaborativeCAP Mechanical Estimator (Engineering Specialist I) to be a part of the DECM Construction Construction Logistics Team. This position will provide plumbing fire protection and mechanical material takeoff and estimating for challenging yet rewarding force account new construction renovation and major maintenance projects completed by DAC in-house construction personnel.
A successful candidate for this CAP Mechanical Estimator (Engineering Specialist I) position will provide DECM Constructions plumbing fire protection and mechanical construction logistics team with material takeoffs estimating and procurement of plumbing and mechanical trades materials and equipment. This position will be responsible for reviewing construction plans developing a material takeoff estimating material costs procuring materials and receiving materials prior to the start of all projects.
A successful candidate should have previous experience in the installation and/or estimating of plumbing fire protection and/or mechanical systems efficient decision-making capabilities and effective communication. This position works under the direct management of a Lead Mechanical Estimator.
This position requires the daily commute to DECMs Office Complex off Yonkers Road in Raleigh NC. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. To qualify for this position applicants must document on the application that they possess ALLof the following:
- Demonstrated experience in the plumbing fire protection AND/OR mechanical trades performing installations AND/OR estimating for new construction renovation AND/OR maintenance projects.
- Demonstrated experience using computer software to include but not limited to Microsoft Word Excel Outlook Adobe AND/OR Blue BEAM.
- NC Licensed Limited or Unlimited Plumbing or Mechanical Contractor

Associate s degree in an applicable area of engineering technology from an appropriately accredited institution and six (6) years of progressive technician experience; or High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and eight (8) years of progressive technician experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Supplemental and Contact Information

Department of Adult Correctionis one of the largest state agencies with more than 19000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving the lives and property of its citizens through prevention protection and preparation as well as the care custody and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody healthcare and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration Compliance & Accreditation Comprehensive Health Services Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission and Rehabilitation & Reentry.
The Division of Engineering Construction and Maintenance (DECM)serves as the NCDAC Capital Project Coordinator (CPC) and is tasked with coordinating all capital improvement new construction renovation and repair projects with the State Construction Office (SCO). DECM also acts as the DAC representative on matters involving the State Property Office and State Building Commission. Our unified purpose is to provide architectural and engineering support sustainability efficiency and resiliency planning as well as construction and maintenance services. This ensures that all statewide Institutions and Facilities comply with building codes regulations and legislative mandates while promoting the agencys rehabilitation and reentry goals through offender job training in the construction and maintenance trades.We support the Institutions and Facilities directly and indirectly by installing and maintaining kitchen plumbing mechanical electrical and electronics equipment. The DECM-Engineering team consists of experts in architectural and engineering design property services project management and sustainability efficiency and resiliency (SE&R). These services support new construction renovation and like-in-kind and upgrade maintenance repairs to the agencys physical plant while ensuring compliance with the NCDOA State Construction Office.
Through valuable rehabilitation and training for offenders we aim to improve recidivism rates. DECM-Construction undertakes construction renovation and major maintenance projects that involve longer periods of resource allocation with a focus on enhancing the departments infrastructure assets. DECM-Maintenance which encompasses the Mountain Regional Yard Piedmont Regional Yard Coastal Regional Yard and three Satellite Yards provides essential plumbing HVAC/R and electrical preventative prescriptive and routine maintenance services to all Institutions and Facilities. Additionally our maintenance efforts include specific areas such as telecommunications electronic intrusion systems (EIS) fencing cameras fire alarms and energy management systems all focused on maintaining the Departments infrastructure assets.
DAC uses the Merit-Based Recruitment and Selection Plan to fill positions subject to the State Human Resources Act with the most qualified individuals. Hiring salary will be based on relevant qualifications internal equity and budgetary considerations pertinent to the advertised position.
