Job Description

The Director of Transportation is responsible for managing and overseeing the districts transportation services including all in-house specialized transportation and coordination with third-party yellow bus providers. The director supervises department staff including drivers monitors dispatchers mechanics and administrative assistants. The Director ensures transportation services are efficient safe equitable and responsive to the needs of South Hadley students and families. This position plays a key role in developing transportation policies in coordination with the Superintendent and is responsible for their successful Degree required; Bachelors Degree preferredMinimum five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in school or public transportationExperience in a supervisory or leadership role in transportation operationsValid Massachusetts 7D license or ability to obtain one within 90 days of hireStrong knowledge of state and federal transportation regulations including 7D and CDL transportation requirementsDemonstrated ability to coordinate logistics manage staff and maintain confidentialityExcellent organizational communication and interpersonal skillsProficiency in technology and transportation routing software (e.g. Transfinder or equivalent)Ability to respond to urgent matters calmly and effectively outside of normal working hours when necessary
