The Service & Team:

Based within the Resilient Communities Service the Safer Cornwall Support Officer (Preventing Extremism Safer Towns and ASB) will be part of the Community Safety Team whose core purpose is to support safe healthy and resilient communities. As part of the team you will provide support over a wide range of exciting references:

Community Safety which includes:Community Safety Officers co-ordinating targeted local multi-agency prevention and response through the ten Safer Towns Partnerships; managing the core functions of Safer Cornwall (the statutory Community Safety Partnership) the front line Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Team working alongside the police and partners to reduce problems in towns and neighbourhoods and the Preventing Extremism and Terrorism and Serious and Organised Crime lead. The teams work also includes the delivery of targeted initiatives to reduce the harms of drugs and alcohol the commissioning of community treatment services;and the Domestic Abuse&Sexual Violence team providing targeted prevention support and response as well as commissioning the support and therapy services and safe accommodation.

The Role:

The postholder will be required to provide high quality administrative and appropriate business support to the Community Safety Team within Resilient Communities and to facilitate excellent co-ordination and co-operative working between the various teams and supporting managers across the Safer Cornwall Partnership (including Safer Towns ASB and Preventing Extremism).

This will include administrative support for multi agency partnership meetings with external parties such as scheduling meetings managing agendas maintaining minutes action logs and risk logs and supporting with the preparation of necessary reports.

The role holder will have responsibility for co ordinating a range of statutory functions aligned to the Community Safety Partnership including Safer Cornwall Management Group (and cover for the Board meetings) Safer Towns meetings Complex Needs Operational Group meetings and the Internal Contest Board.

The role holder will be responsible for setting up the strict criteria for invitation to Contest Board on a quarterly basis in line with the with the Cornwall & IOS Contest Board Guidance setting up the board invitations and associated papers.

This is a public/customer-facing role where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies.

This position will be subject to a standard criminal record disclosure check.

Working Pattern:

This maternity cover post is offered for a 12 month fixed term period on a full-time basis (37 hours per week Monday to Friday). Flexible working arrangements would be considered as would a secondment (with current managers full permission).

Whilst the location/work-base for this role has been specified our evolving ways of working means that the role may be worked remotely for part of the time (e.g. from home/other locations). Certain meetings will need to be covered in person. We will discuss this with you during the recruitment process.

What youll need to succeed:

Sufficient understanding of various business processes including business planning project management and performance managementDemonstrates excellent customer service and communication skills when dealing with team members and colleagues as well as with the public and elected members. However must also demonstrate discretion around confidential and sensitive information in relation to requests for service from the public and staffing matters.Detailed knowledge and understanding of diary systems and how to manage them for Senior Management sufficient to keep diaries up to date and prioritise requested changes identify the implications of existing entries solve problems by negotiating suitable alternative arrangements and competent at maintaining security and confidentiality.Strong organisational skills with proven experience of improving business and administrative processes and systems.Proficient in the use of all packages including Microsoft Word PowerPoint Excel Teams and Outlook and the related telephony equipment. Accurately and appropriately stores all data on the appropriate software. Demonstrates good experience in the utilisation of web-based softwareGood knowledge and skills to format organise and present slides complete with speaker notes using a range of techniques for combining information formatting and editing; combined with an ability to check content structure and style of presentation material.Good experience in managing multiple activities at same time and demonstrating effective time management and prioritisation skills plus demonstrable office and facilities management experience to include liaising with suppliers stock control and communicationsAbility to problem solve and act on own initiativeGood experience of minuting meetings across diverse subject areas and producing timely accurate and appropriately detailed and presented papers. Experience of advising and reporting to staff at all levels of an organisation event and diary managementProven ability of recording and monitoring of document management including managing the sign off process and sufficient experience in collating manipulating and presenting data in a variety of formatsGood understanding of Information Governance requirements including GDPR and related business processesHigh level of flexibility and ability to work under pressure in a dynamic and fast changing environmentNVQ Level 2 in Administration (or relevant subject) or equivalent qualification/experienceRSA II Word processing or equivalent competency

The normal duties of the role may involve travel on a regular or occasional basis. It is a condition of employment that you can exercise satisfactory travel mobility in order to fulfil the obligations of the role. You will be required to provide a suitable form of transport for those journeys where an alternative form of transport is unavailable or impracticable.

Given the nature of some of these functions the post holder could be required to review reports collate information and minute meetings that may contain distressing and sensitive material. The postholder will be required to exercise absolute confidentiality with regards to the content of the material discussed and the identity of any person/s connected to the review.

They may alsoneed to undertake Police Vetting in the future.
