Job Description

Job Summary

$62200 - $97371 / year DOQ Full-Time County Benefits

Performs experienced work providing information and readers advisory services to the public; organizing Youth Services Divisions (YS) special services in at least one area; assisting with divisions operations; promoting library services to the community; and working in support of WRLs Strategic Communications and Outreach Services plans and all other official institutional directives.

Responsibilities

Leads efforts to incorporate emerging technologies into youth programming and services to increase engagement and digital literacy.
Strengthens and expands partnerships with external stakeholders including the WJCC school system homeschool communities hospitals and new families by facilitating school tours developing targeted building programming and maintaining strong community visibility.
Manages and provides content editing and technical support for WRLs Beanstack platform in support of reading challenges and youth engagement initiatives.
Serves as Volunteer Coordinator for Youth Services recruiting training and managing volunteers in collaboration with other staff.
Supervises the Summer Reading Assistant seasonal staff members each summer for the librarys Summer Reading Program.
Provides public with information and materials from WRLs collections and other sources by researching and interpreting print online and other sources; locates and recommends materials appropriate for users interest and reading levels; evaluates accuracy currency and usefulness of information or materials; recommends topics for reports and other assignments; and prepares booklists library guides and displays.
Organizes YS special services in one or more assigned area including collection development and maintenance; volunteers and donors; and services to specific age groups.
Develops and implements training and teaches individuals and groups to use library resources and research methods; performs research; develops specialized collections including electronic and online resources; creates instructional materials to inform and promote resources; informs community of relevant new information and materials; and serves as liaison to community.
Assists with YS operations including overseeing staff volunteers and volunteer projects; maintaining updating and interpreting policies and procedures; and scheduling; resolving staff user equipment and building problems as needed.
Develops supports and presents programs and activities to youth and families; offers programs and services to users outside the buildings as part of WRLs outreach services.
Improves the quality of library services through individual and general staff development including attendance at workshops and conferences; serves on library committees; trains other staff as appropriate.
Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications:

Master of Library Science (MLS) degree from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited college required; some library experience providing service to youth and families preferred; some experience in and commitment to public service.
Must possess reliable transportation to work site(s).
Knowledge of print and electronic reference sources and digital devices; youth literature information sources and research techniques; and principles practices and techniques of library services including information readers advisory collection development outreach and programming particularly for children from birth through middle school.
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service including setting and meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Skill in use of computer software especially Microsoft Office Suite; and excellent written and oral communication.
Ability to effectively work with users of all ages and other library personnel; plan and organize daily work and special projects including paying close attention to detail setting priorities and meeting deadlines; establish and maintain relationships with the library administration and staff members government/school/community officials and personnel vendors and the public; ability to work well under pressure.

Job Locations and Conditions
Work is performed primarily at the Williamsburg Regional Library buildings and at selected outreach locations; works in both an office and at a public service desk; requires the ability to travel among the various library locations and other sites; may require operation of Mobile Library Services vehicles.
Eligible for intermittent telework.
Performs work safely in accordance with division safety procedures and County Safety Program; operates equipment safely and reports any unsafe work condition or practice to supervisor.
May be required to report to work to serve customers during emergency conditions; may be assigned to report at a different time and location and to perform different duties as necessary.
Work schedule includes some nights and weekends
