Position Overview

The Department of Gerontology at Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking a qualified Adjunct Professor to teach GRTY 624: Geriatric Care Management a graduate-level fully online course offered in the Fall or Spring semester. This 3-credit course prepares students to manage the complex care needs of older adults and their families using a holistic community-based person-centered incoming adjunct faculty will bring academic and real-world experience to the classroom with a strong commitment to teaching community engagement and the professional advancement of gerontological practice.

This course will be co-taught with two instructors contributing 50% effort to the course.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Gerontology (MS in Gerontology) from an accredited institution.
  • Current certification as a Certified Geriatric Care Manager (CGCM).
  • Demonstrated professional experience in community aging services with a focus on care coordination patient and family engagement and resource navigation.
  • Experience teaching or training adult learners in an academic community or healthcare setting.
  • Proficiency with virtual learning platforms (e.g. Canvas Zoom) and strong digital communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of professionalism respect and civility with a population of faculty staff and students from various backgrounds and experiences or a commitment to do so as an adjunct faculty member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching graduate-level coursework in gerontology social work nursing or related fields.
  • Familiarity with national standards and best practices in geriatric care management.
