Job Description

The Seasonal Community Engagement Events Coordinator (Seasonal Events Coordinator-Canada Summer Job) will play a key role in promoting The Mustard Seeds mission and upcoming events including the Calgary Stampede and The Mustard Seeds 40th anniversary celebration. Acting as a brand ambassador this role will focus on building connections with local Calgary businesses recruiting volunteers engaging donors and driving community participation. The Coordinator will enhance public awareness of The Mustard Seeds impact and encourage active support for our programs and special events.

Location: Calgary Centre #
Position Type: Seasonal Employment Full time (8 weeks)
Hourly Rate: $18.00 hourly
Schedule: 35 hours per week (Total Number of Hours: 280)
Reporting to: Community & Volunteer Engagement Manager

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Business and Community Engagement

  • Engage local Calgary businesses to build partnerships and secure sponsorships for upcoming events strengthening community connections.
  • Act as a brand ambassador for The Mustard Seed representing the organization at community events meetings and networking functions to foster goodwill and public support.
  • Promote awareness of The Mustard Seeds mission and goals through outreach efforts educating stakeholders on social issues such as poverty and homelessness.

Event Promotion and Participation

  • Help create and execute promotional strategies to encourage public involvement in special events including the Calgary Stampede The Mustard Seeds 40th anniversary and seasonal initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop engaging content for social media newsletters and promotional materials that highlight event details and encourage attendance.
  • Help coordinate event logistics in partnership with internal teams ensuring smooth setup registration and volunteer coordination on the day of events.

Volunteer and Donor Recruitment

  • Recruit and onboard volunteers to support events and programs organizing orientation and training sessions as needed.
  • Engage potential donors by highlighting The Mustard Seeds impact encouraging gift in kind contributions to support program goals.
  • Develop relationships with community members who have the potential to become long-term supporters and advocates for The Mustard Seed.

Community Awareness and Education

  • Host and participate in awareness-building activities to educate the community about poverty homelessness and The Mustard Seeds work to address these issues.
  • Facilitate discussions and presentations for local businesses and community groups inspiring greater involvement in social impact initiatives.
  • Share stories and testimonials from those served by The Mustard Seed providing personal insights that connect with audiences.

Administrative Duties

  • Track and report on engagement metrics including speaking engagements volunteer participation donor contributions and event attendance to assess the success of outreach efforts.
  • Assist in managing event budgets ensuring cost-effective planning and resource allocation.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required contributing to team initiatives and sharing insights from community engagement activities.

Other Duties

  • Support other community engagement projects as assigned helping The Mustard Seed to maximize its seasonal impact in Calgary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Education and Experience: Relevant experience in Community Engagement Event Planning Public Relations or similar fields. Prior experience in volunteer recruitment community outreach or nonprofit events is a plus.
  • Skills: Strong communication interpersonal and organizational skills; proficiency with social media and office software; ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently.
  • Attributes: Enthusiastic personable adaptable and dedicated to social justice and community building.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Working environment will include indoor and outdoor activities office work on computer lifting and some travel will be required
  • Evenings and weekends may be required to accommodate the hours of the community hubs
  • Physical and mental effort will be moderate
  • Employment Security Check is required
  • Position is conditional on Summer Student funding and number of hours or weeks may be subject to change

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • An Employment Background Check is required for all positions at The Mustard Seed and vulnerable sector check may be required for this role.
  • As The Mustard Seed is a Christian ministry we require our employees to agree to respect and not detract from The Mustard Seeds Employment Values during their employment at The Mustard Seed.
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

This position requires the use of a company vehicle and/or personal vehicle for company use. The candidate must have a valid drivers licence maintain $2M Vehicle Liability Insurance on the personal vehicle being used and will need to consent to a drivers abstract request.
