Carers WA is the peak body representing the needs and interests of carers in Western Australia and is part of a national network of Carers Associations providing a range of support services supporting Carers across Western Australia. Carers provide unpaid care and support to family members and friends who have disability mental health challenges a chronic condition terminal illness an alcohol or other drug issue or who are frail aged.

The Carer Wellness in the Home Support Officer is a full-time fixed-term position to 30 June 2026. The position attracts a salary of $81295 p.a. plus super and salary packaging 5 weeks annual leave (with17.5% leave loading on annual leave days) and two wellness days per annum.

Position Description

The Support Officer Carer Wellness in the Home Program (CWHP) is responsible for providing holistic support for carers which is tailored to their individual needs. The purpose of the role is to connect with carers initially in the home environment with the objective of enhancing their health and wellbeing and thereby improving resilience. The nature of the intervention can vary from emotional support the provision of service information training and advocacy. This will be achieved by establishing their support needs; providing supports and where appropriate warm referrals to other support services; and developing networks including services that will refer carers to the CWHP.

The role is also responsible for educating carers service providers and mainstream organisations around the important role of unpaid carers and the assistance that is available for them. Promotion of Carers WA Programs will also include providing input and feedback regarding the caring role Carers Recognition Act and the Carers Charter. The role also involves coordinating the Sector Support and Development projects associated with the program Activity Work Plan in line with funding requirements.

Additionally working with existing Carers WA process and systems the role encourages an accessible and inclusive workplace. The role is both office and community based with home visits as required.

In these instances and where possible Carers WA will mitigate the impact of this exposure. Typical stressors associated with this role may include exposure to traumatic narratives and difficult situations.

Essential Selection Criteria

1. Qualification relevant (Health or Allied Health Professional) to the role or demonstrated extensive experience working in a similar role.
2. Understanding and empathy of carers health mental health ageing and disability issues including with Aboriginal CaLD and LGBTIQ individuals and communities.
3. Demonstrated competence with person-centred practice supporting individuals to increase independence participation and wellbeing.
4. High level communication negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
5. Skills in public speaking at a variety of events including expos workshops.
6. Demonstrated capacity to develop and maintain effective relationships with a range of stakeholders.
7. Demonstrated experience in administration/business processes with high level computer skills including in Microsoft Office Suite and high level of accurate data entry into client management systems.
8. Current C Class Divers License.
9. National Police Clearance issued within the last 3 months (to be provided upon employment).

Desirable Selection Criteria

1. Current Working with Children Check
2. Experience in working for Not for Profit
3. Knowledge of Carers Recognition Act 2004 and The Carers Charter
