$800 hiring bonus - $400 at the beginning and $400 at 6 months.
As a Housing Specialist you will assist families experiencing homelessness in obtaining and maintaining housing in the Central Minnesota area from the search through the lease end and work as a team to assist families to transition to permanent housing options.
As a Housing Specialist you will:
- Provide tenant education as needed including rights and responsibilities of being a successful renter as well as working with families in achieving immediate and long-term housing goals.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with rental property owners
- Continually recruit additional property owners/landlords who are willing to rent to families served in LSSs supportive housing programs
- Assist with rental assistance programs and maintain accurate and timely records related to subsidy administration
Housing Specialist Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree or equivalent related experience
- Demonstrates the ability to work with a culturally diverse population and of cultural competency
- Valid drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle and current insurance to meet and transport families to apartment viewings/lease signings and meet with property owners
- Strong organizational skills attention to detail and able to multi-task to accomplish the day-to-day activities
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively positively and professionally with participants providers family members co-workers supervisor
- Demonstrate the ability to work independently while functioning as part of a larger team to promote a positive supportive and collaborative atmosphere
- Travel includes travel within the community including but not limited to property inspection housing appointments/showings and visits with rental property owners and program participants
- Ability to pass various background checks including Sexual Contact Bureau of Criminal Affairs Motor Vehicle
- Computer skills including Microsoft Office with the ability to learn additional computer skills/programs as necessary
Additional Housing Specialist Qualifications:
- Housing Quality Standards (HQS) licensure desired
- Previous experience working with low-income and homeless families desired
- 2 years experience working closely with rental property owners desired.
- Knowledge about affordable rental subsidy compliance housing inspections code violations tenant/landlord rights and responsibilities and marketing of real estate is preferred.
