Job Description

JOB GOAL:
To provide high-quality Science and Social Studies instruction in a departmentalized 5th-grade classroom fostering students curiosity critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The teacher will support literacy development by integrating reading comprehension and vocabulary strategies into content instruction. This position requires collaboration to create a dynamic learning environment that ensures student growth and achievement in both subject areas.

SUMMARY:
At Watson Elementary School we strive to build strong partnerships with families and the community to provide engaging meaningful learning experiences that shape future leaders. We uphold the principle that all students can learn and deserve a quality education in a safe nurturing environment.

As part of the upper elementary team this teacher will create a rigorous student-centered classroom focused on Science and Social Studies while integrating literacy strategies to support overall academic success. Through hands-on inquiry-based learning and real-world applications students will develop an understanding of scientific principles historical events and their impact on the world around them.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This position is a nine and one-fourth (9.25) month contract (190 days) plus a benefits package. NOTE: Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based on experience and the districts salary placement guidelines. FLSA: EXEMPT.

TEACHER SALARY SCHEDULE

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of a Bachelors degree (graduate coursework preferred).

  • Must hold an Arkansas Teachers License for Elementary Education (K-6) or Middle Level Science/Social Studies.

  • ESOL endorsement preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of 5th-grade Science and Social Studies content.

  • Experience or training in the Science of Reading including morphology instruction.

  • Ability to apply current educational research and best practices to meet the needs of diverse learners.

  • Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development and collaborative planning with colleagues.

  • Commitment to using hands-on materials technology and inquiry-based learning to enhance instruction.

  • A 5-10 minute video demonstrating classroom teaching experience is required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties describe the general nature and level of work expected from individuals in this position:

  • Provide Science and Social Studies instruction to 5th-grade students in a departmentalized setting ensuring alignment with state standards.

  • Develop and facilitate engaging inquiry-based lessons that encourage scientific exploration historical analysis and critical thinking.

  • Utilize hands-on experiments interactive activities and primary sources to deepen student understanding.

  • Integrate literacy strategies into Science and Social Studies lessons to strengthen students comprehension and vocabulary.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to differentiate instruction and support diverse learning needs.

  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide frequent feedback to students families and stakeholders.

  • Support Watson Elementarys vision by working collaboratively with staff and administration to foster a positive safe and inclusive learning environment.

  • Communicate learning objectives clearly and ensure lessons are well-organized and engaging.

  • Use research-based assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction as needed.

  • Establish and maintain strong classroom management practices to create a structured productive learning space.

  • Foster student collaboration and discussion through project-based learning and real-world applications.

  • Maintain open communication with parents and guardians to foster cooperation and involve them in the educational process.

  • Participate in professional development and school-wide initiatives to enhance instructional effectiveness.

  • Plan and supervise field trips guest speakers and extracurricular activities that enrich the Science and Social Studies curriculum.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Regularly required to sit stand walk use foot and hand controls write and communicate orally.

  • Occasionally required to lift and move up to twenty (20) pounds.

  • Ability to perceive sounds near and far vision depth perception and work with educational materials.

  • Must be able to work the duration of the daily contracted period with minimal unexcused absences.

  • Additional skills and knowledge may be recommended by the supervisor and approved by Human Resources.
