Open Window School (K-8 coed 358 student day school) is seeking highly qualified candidates for its Middle School Innovation & Technology Associate Teacher position.

Position Overview

Open Window School has an excellent opportunity for an individual to support grades 5-8 computer science curriculum and instruction as Middle School Innovation & Technology Associate Teacher in our fully outfitted Innovation & Technology Lab a state-of the art innovation facility and fabrication lab for twenty first century learning.

The Middle School Innovation & Technology Associate Teacher will assist in teaching computer science and design thinking skills as well as collaborate with faculty to design and coordinate interdisciplinary activities to promote innovative learning during our annual Middle School Project Week. The ideal candidate will have a passion for computer science design thinking and project-based learning as well as experience or interest in working in a student-centered collaborative and inquiry-based educational environment.

Major Areas of Responsibility/Specific Duties:

• Build students confidence and self-esteem as you come to know them as learners and individuals.
• Practice and model respect for individual differences learning styles and rates of learning.
• Assist with the teaching of grades 5-8 computer science courses and electives.
• Assist with the organization maintenance and inventory of hardware software and other materials in the Innovation & Technology Lab.
• Ensure safety of students as they use Innovation & Technology Lab tools.
• Take initiative with the tasks that keep a classroom running smoothly.
• Provide timely feedback to lead teacher concerning students social emotional behavioral and academic progress.
• Review comment and grade student work accurately professionally and in a timely manner.
• Attend required in service days meetings seminars and training sessions.
• Attend and participate in school events sometimes in the evening and overnight Middle School trips.
• Assume the Lead Innovation & Technology Teacher role when necessary.

Skills:

• Associates degree and/or 1-2 years of relevant experience.
• Experience working with middle school students preferably in a classroom setting.

Qualities & Qualifications:

• Creative resourceful adaptive and flexible.
• Interested in computer science design thinking and project-based learning.
• An interest in the social-emotional development of children.
• Strong cultural competency; comfortable and effective working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Supports our mission statement to nurture and inspire students of high intellectual potential.
• Ability to work independently collegially and collaboratively. Positive team member.
• Demonstrate a warm engaging demeanor towards families colleagues and public.

Preferred Qualities:

• Experience with intellectually gifted children a plus.
• Teaching certificate or coursework relevant to education and/or computer science a plus.

Position Details:

Manager: Director of Middle School

Compensation: $47017 per year

Position Classification: Exempt Full Time (10 months) benefit eligible

Hours: 8am 4pm 5pm on Tuesdays. This role requires some commitments outside these hours including but not limited to school events and Middle School Trips.
