Job Description

POSITION: Business and Marketing Education CTE - Grades 9 12 1.0 FTE

LOCATION: Big Picture High School Choice Schools

REPORTS TO: Career & Technical Education Director and Choice Schools Principal

Purpose: Providing quality ELA and project-focused instruction through effective project-based learning and classroom management techniques specific to hands-on integrated learning in a competency-based program for students in grades 9th through 12th.

Responsibilities

  • Planning preparing implementing and evaluating instructional activities consistent with established program and/or curriculum objectives CTE Program Standards 21st Century Skills Washington State Standards and Common Core Standards
  • Demonstrating effective teaching practices specifically around project-based learning and utilizing appropriate instructional methods and materials suited to the students aptitudes and interests and the nature of the learning activities
  • Providing a clear and intentional focus on ELA subject matter content and curriculum project management curriculum and administration of a WSL program for students in Choice Schools
  • Using multiple student data elements to modify instruction and improve student learning
  • Providing instruction that centers on high expectations for student achievement
  • Exhibiting collaborative and collegial practices focused on improving instructional practice and student learning with teachers in Choice Schools
  • Recognizing individual student learning needs and developing strategies to address those needs
  • Establishing classroom policies and procedures governing student behavior to ensure a safe and positive learning environment
  • Providing guidance counseling and discipline to encourage students to meet the standard of achievement and conduct
  • Communicating and collaborating with students parents and/or guardians administration and other staff members to provide guidance and evaluation and encourage student achievement
  • Evaluating and recording student progress and providing reports for administrative purposes
  • Maintaining program certification through OSPI Course Approval Process
  • Providing leadership and guidance to students as an advisor through a recognized and approved CTSO such as FBLA or DECA
  • Maintaining active participation and working with CTE Program advisory committees
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the CTE Director

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability of best practices for instructing Business Education
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize a variety of instructional strategies and methods appropriate to student learning needs specifically those related to project-based learning
  • Demonstrated ability to align instruction and assessment with CTE Program Standards 21st Century Skill Standards Washington State Standards and Common Core Standards
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate subject matter
  • Demonstrated knowledge of TPEP and Danielson Framework
  • Demonstrated effective and positive student behavior management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to promote high expectations maintain a caring attitude and establish a learning environment that enhances academic achievement for all students
  • Demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships and interact successfully with all school district staff and students
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters in an ethical manner
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently take initiative and accept the responsibility of providing effective leadership in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and provide logical solutions in complex situations
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to produce and maintain accurate records
  • Demonstrated ability to remain flexible to change in assignment or situations
  • Demonstrated high level of computer proficiency and application of technology

Qualifications

  • Washington State Teaching Certificate with appropriate Business Education CTE Certification and Endorsement
  • Teaching experience at the secondary level preferred
  • Ability to teach variety of Business Education-related subjects including but not limited to:
    • Business Communication
    • Journalism
    • Social Media Marketing
    • Project Management/Leadership
    • Work Site Learning
    • Career Choices
  • ESL Certification completion of Glad Training and ability to speak Spanish language preferred
  • Must qualify to work in the proximity of children under the conditions of a WSP/FBI background check
