Under the direction of the Dean of Community Education or designee the Traffic Safety Program Specialist supports the administration and operations of the Traffic Safety Program at MATC. This dual role involves assisting with program development student support data management and community outreach initiatives in conjunction with reporting to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and Wisconsin Technical College Board ensuring compliance with relevant traffic safety Trans Codes rules and regulations. Supervision received is general in nature using established procedures and general objectives and limited to problems or unusual conditions. Works independently with minimal supervision and with staff in a teamwork approach.Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
- Program Administration Assistance and Customer Service:Provides day-to-day support to the Traffic Safety Program to promote operational excellence. Provides excellent customer service anticipating and exceeding the needs of our internal and external customers. Schedules and coordinates meetings travel and other necessary tasks. Additionally possesses intermediate to expert word processing spreadsheet and graphics software skills and expert technical Wisconsin DOT system knowledge and infrastructure.
- Policy and Procedure Updating and Training:Continuously reviews SOPs policies and procedures makes recommendations for implementation strategies to bring uniformity to the program and collaborates with colleagues to streamline processes and improve operational efficiency.
- Faculty Scheduling and Certification: Coordinates scheduling and course assignments for Traffic Safety Program faculty. Coordinates and processes state instructor renewal certifications by collecting evaluating and verifying required documentation.
- Regulation and Compliance Oversight: Ensures all program activities adhere to state and federal traffic safety regulations and guidelines. Monitors changes in traffic safety laws and regulations to inform program updates and course/ training materials. Assists in the development of compliance reports for relevant authorities and stakeholders.
- Collaborative Teamwork: Establishes maintains and enhances positive work relationships with staff faculty students administrators and community in conjunction with local county and state court systems.
- Ethics and Confidentiality:Practices honesty by demonstrating a consistent and uncompromising adherence to strong moral and ethical principles values truthfulness and accuracy in all actions. Addresses all student and employee behavior in a confidential and respectful manner while adhering to all rules regulations and laws set forth by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and MATC.
- Continuous Learning & Professional Development: Maintains current knowledge of best practices and standards in higher education with an emphasis on community Colleges. Actively organizes and/or participates in applicable workgroups trainings workshops seminars committees and professional associations or conferences to promote continuous learning.
- Other duties: Performs other related duties within the scope of the position as required for the efficient operation of the division and to support institutional objectives.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Compliance with all state federal and accreditation standards/requirement both in MATC policies and procedures as well as Wisconsin Department of Transportation and the Wisconsin Technical College Board.
Required Education & Experience MINIMUMS:- High School Diploma and at least one (1) year additional coursework in a postsecondary school.
- Must have a minimum of one (1) year of office experience.
Associates degree in business or related field with two (2) years post high school office experience.
Experience with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation specifically the Traffic Safety School is highly desirable.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES- Knowledge of traffic safety WI-DOT regulations educational methodologies and all relevant MATC regulations.
- Knowledge of modern business office practices procedures and intermediate to expert skill in their applications.
- Ability to keep complex records to assemble and organize data and prepare reports from such records.
- Ability to independently investigate pay and related problems solving problems within established parameters.
- Ability to provide exceptional internal and external customer service.
- Ability to communicate effectively through both oral and written means.
- Ability to establish collaborate and maintain effective working relationships with peers students instructors staff Wisconsin Department of Transportation units representatives of outside agencies municipal courts educational institutions and general public.
- Ability to convey an image of professionalism and dedication in work related activities.
- Ability to work with culturally diverse student and employee populations.
- Intermediate or expert skill set in the use of computers and software specific to position including Google Suite spreadsheets Wisconsin Department of Transportation WAMS WASP PARS systems WI-CCAP and the Internet.

Supplemental Information
Start Date: This position supports the Community EducationDivision and is available to start as soon as possible.
Salary: Salaryis listed to the midpoint of the salary range and is based on the 2025/2026 rates and are determined by years of experience credit and internal salary equity.
Hours: This position requires 40 hours per week. Work hours may vary Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM with occasional Saturdays and travel to other campuses.
Modality:This is a 100% In-Person position at our Milwaukee Downtown Campus location.Employees will conduct all work hours in the State of Wisconsin performing work outside the state is strictly prohibited.
