Description

General Summary: Responsible for the operation of the melting furnaces and for the transfer of molten metal to the holding furnaces

Essential Functions:

1) Transfers molten metal to holding furnaces.

2) Melts re-melt sows ingot and molten as directed.

3) Unloads molten metal trucks.

4) Pours and pulls ladles as directed.

5) Prepares sows for charging.

6) Unloads raw materials.

7) Prepares sow lists.

8) Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.

Marginal Functions:

1) Performs various duties of group leader in his/her absence.

2) Assists in the repair of furnaces and furnace doors.

Minimum Qualifications:

1) High school diploma or equivalent required

2) Certified fork truck operator

3) Previous warehouse or manufacturing experience.

Working Conditions:

  • Plant conditions including exposure to dirt fumes noise and cleaning chemicals. Continual exposure to extreme heat.
  • Frequent walking and standing.
  • Frequent pulling pushing and lifting of furnace plug tool weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Occasional shoveling raw materials weighing up to 20 lbs.

Supervision Received:

Works under considerable supervision. Follows prescribed routines and procedures. Refers unusual problems to melt shop group leader or melt shop supervisor.
