Donation Centre Associate - Part-time

The Donation Centre Associate will work with team members and volunteers to receive incoming clothing and household items ensure that they are in a suitable condition and sort the items. The position will also pack and deliver orders to the Thrift Store The Mustard Seeds Community Impact Centres and The Mustard Seeds Shelters. As this position interacts directly with donors and volunteers The Donation Centre Associate is responsible for providing a positive experience for all who visit The Mustard Seed.

Schedule: Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Receive incoming donations screening and sorting items according to quality standards and with reference to program & Thrift Store needs.
• Pack orders and deliver to the Thrift Store and Emergency Closets.
• Retrieve donations and supplies from partner organizations.
• Communicate the story of The Mustard Seeds ministry and develop rapport through intentional interactions with volunteers and donors.
• Provide guidance and assistance to volunteers engaged in sorting packing or related activities.
• Maintain accurate reporting of donations inventory and outgoing items.
• Contribute and execute creative ideas to improve donor relations goods stewardship and process efficiency.
• Maintain cleanliness of the warehouse and its perimeter to ensure a safe workplace.
• Participate in all staff training (e.g. First Aid Safe TALK NVCI) and attend meetings with supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

• Proficiency in Microsoft office programs specifically data entry is an asset.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to support front-line programs.
• Knowledge of designer labels collectibles and seasonal trends is an asset.
• Strong communication customer service problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
• A self-starter with the ability to work in a cross-functional team and direct volunteer groups including those with diverse needs and abilities as required.
• Experience working in a volunteer-based organization is considered an asset.
• Passionate about working in an organization focused on supporting people living in poverty.
• Possession of a valid Class 5 drivers license and a clean driving abstract is an asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• As The Mustard Seed is a Christian ministry we require our employees sign an agreement indicating that they will respect and not detract from our Statement of Faith.
• The position will require frequent manual labor (up to 50 lbs) with long periods of standing and walking indoors and outdoors of the warehouse.
• Regular contact with a diverse group of individuals; may encounter difficult behaviors from time to time.
• Fast-paced and dynamic work environment with shifting priorities.
• Employees are to be aware that many of our clients may experience difficulties or impairment at times which could result in them uttering threats discriminatory statements and other insults at your person. This may in a raised voice or in seeing unpredictable behaviour up to and including the possibility of them becoming aggressive.
  • Training on how to respond is provided but this is to be considered typical working conditions. Many of our clients are unaware of the impact of these comments.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
• This position requires the use of a company vehicle. Candidate must have and maintain valid drivers licence and will need to consent to a drivers abstract request.
