Vanderlande is a global market leader in material handling system manufacture design installation and systems employ the latest in robotic mechanical and software customers are household names in e-commerce package delivery and air transportation. Vanderlandes baggage handling systems move 3.7 billion pieces of luggage around the world per year in other words 10.1 million per day. Its systems are active in 600 airports including 13 of the worlds top 20. More than 39 million parcels are sorted by its systems every day which have been installed for the worlds leading parcel companies. In addition many of the largest global e-commerce players and distribution firms have confidence in Vanderlandes efficient and reliable solutions.

As a Product Manager (Spare Parts) you largely determine the business success of the assigned (technical) product lines for which you are responsible. You are the spider in the web and know what is happening on the market in detail. Based on this knowledge you ensure that the product lines have a unique position in the fields of assortment prices and communication.

Your most important tasks are:

  • Defining and implementing the assortment policy including life cycle management.
  • In collaboration with internal colleagues you improve and maintain contact with the supplier with the aim of making agreements and integrating them into a contract.
  • In addition to supplying spare parts you test the financial impact of alternative solutions.
  • You are competitive in the various markets in which you operate and achieve your objectives.
  • Scope: Complete Spare Parts portfolio consisting of multiple products. (e.g. Vanderlande IP catalogue parts 3rd party spare parts)
  • Ensures the short- and long-term profitability of spare parts for Vanderlande.
  • Is seen as a sparring partner of Customer Centers Sourcing managers Product managers LCS.
  • In consultation with all stakeholders draws up the list of spare parts requirements for new products/product standards. Is responsible for their acceptance.
  • Identifies business opportunities and improvements. Sets own targets. Create a plan including a business case to realize these. Liaises with all relevant stakeholders to get commitment and means.
  • Leads bigger multi-disciplinary project teams (>5 FTE)
  • Has a clear vision on available technologies and trends outside Vanderlande. Verifies applicability and brings them into Vanderlande. (e.g. condition-based maintenance)
  • Increases knowledge level in team; increases professionalism in Spare parts department

Product Manager additional focus details:

1) Category Management: Extra support for Spare Parts supplier relations. About 80% of the purchase value within Spare Parts is generated with 20 suppliers. By having a more pro-active relationship we can:

  • Increase realistic lead times and manage expectations towards our customers
  • Goal: improve OTD
  • Have a better discussion on price effects
  • Goal: Improve contribution margin
  • Better information on the Life Cycle of Spare Parts
  • Better Phase-in/ Phase-out process
  • Discuss content for our web shop better content for our customers
  • Goal: Higher web shop penetration

First point of contact towards suppliers by regular contact between Spare Parts and Category Manager Supply Chain the interests of Spare Parts can be better safe guarded.

2) Portfolio rationalization: Supplier analysis for Spare Parts to make sure the most effective/ efficient supplier is used. By discussing this with Spare Parts Logistic and Category Managers Supply Chain we can improve OTD and Contribution Margin.

3) Quality issue coordination: Coordinate quality issues / future purchases for Spare Parts.

4) Product Takeover/ End of Life: Spare Parts must be well informed and represented during these processes.

5) Process description: Describe the processes within Spare Parts for the process map 2.0. Its needed that we describe where certain information can be found to limit the questions we get from CCs/ colleagues.

6) Monthly checks: There are some monthly activities to be done to make sure that the spare parts portfolio remains up to date. Including in the areas of pricing master data and e-commerce.
