The Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) is seeking a School and Facilities Compliance Inspector to assist in the Business Services Division under the Facilities and Construction department.

Under general direction the School and Facilities Compliance Inspector conducts visitation and inspection of school sites and various facilities throughout Los Angeles County to identify and evaluate good repair as defined in the Education Code and Williams Settlement Legislation.

The Well Qualified Candidate Will Possess the Following

Knowledge:
  • Practices and methods for architecture and general construction
  • Education Code requirements pertaining to school facilities
  • California School Facilities Program
  • Regulations related to Williams Settlement Legislation
  • Basic principles and practices of state and local laws codes and regulations related to maintenance fire and life safety
  • Principles associated with deferred maintenance and preventative maintenance including funding mechanisms available
  • Digital building control systems

Required Education and ExperienceEducation:High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience:Five years of experience in building or construction inspection facilities management construction management or related commercial building maintenance and operations.

Equivalency Provision:An associates degree or an equivalent number of college units (60 semester or 90 quarter units) in engineering architecture construction management or other fields closely related to the job requirements of this classification may substitute for one year of the required experience. A bachelors degree with major coursework in engineering architecture construction management or other fields closely related to the job requirements of this classification from an institution of higher learning recognized by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation may substitute for two years of the required experience. Foreign degrees and credit units require translation and equivalency established by an agency recognized by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.


To ensure the health and safety of its staff LACOE will require employees to provide evidence of full vaccination against COVID-19.

Candidates who pass all exam parts are ranked according to overall exam score and placed on an eligibility (hiring) list. Vacant positions are filled from the top three ranks. Eligibility lasts for 12 months; however additional recruitment may occur under a separate bulletin with additional candidates being merged onto the eligibility list. Some positions that involve public contact may require bilingual proficiency for which selective certification may apply (Education Code 45277.5). In addition the eligibility list resulting from this examination may be used to fill vacancies in related job classifications for which no eligibility list exists (Education Code 45272). Veterans Credit may be awarded for entry jobs.
