Job Description

Position: Middle SchoolMath and Science Academic Specialist

Location: Central Office

Reports to: Executive Director of Secondary Leadership

Length of Employment: 210 days

Salary: As per Berkeley County pay schedule with years of experienceand degree levelwith coordinator index.

Qualifications:

  1. Educational Leadership or Masters Degree in content field from an accredited educational institution.
  2. Valid West Virginia secondary teaching certification.
  3. Must have a minimum of five years cumulative teaching or administrative experience at the secondary (612) level.
  4. Preference is given to those individuals who can demonstrate a deep knowledge of the pedagogy associated with the implementation of the job responsibilities including successful interventions math and science.
  5. Preference is given to individuals who can demonstrate a deep knowledge of analysis of data that drives instruction in support of student achievement.
  6. Preference is given to those individuals who can demonstrate effective coaching communication technology integration and training techniques to implement the Districts Strategic Plan action steps that meet the assigned school goals for improved instruction. Preference given to those who have received professional development in researchbased intervention programs.
  7. Documented experience using assessment data for measures of academic progress such as General Summative Assessment PSAT SAT interim tests benchmark Cambium College Board or other data that has an impact on instruction.
  8. Documented evidence using foundational components and latest research of instructional practice interventions technology and assessment.
  9. Support Math field day Math Olympiad ACE and/or any academic competitions.

Responsibilities:

  1. Provide support and assistance to all classroom teachers in the full and skillful implementation of districts adopted math and science programs.
  2. Conduct demonstration lessons to ensure that all teachers have been trained to an advanced level of delivery and are using the instructional materials as designed.
  3. Provide a multitiered intervention and enrichment system for math and science.
  4. Provide instruction on successful technology integration that supports student learning.
  5. Provide school based and county based professional development to ensure that teachers are knowledgeable about program components and understand the instructional design of how programs meet the standards.
  6. Foster the development implementation evaluation and updating of curriculum and instructional practices.
  7. Assist teachers in building an interactive classroom environment focused on the content and learning strategies embedded in the program.
  8. Analyze and utilize assessment data to improve curricula and student performance.
  9. Assist teachers and administrators with using formative assessments.
  10. Serve as a resource in identifying appropriate instructional strategies and interventions in math and science to improve student achievement for all students.
  11. Assist teachers with the use of curriculum maps that align and guide instructional practice.
  12. Supports principals and sitebased leadership teams in all areas of instructional leadership based on focused instruction. This includes providing professional development; supporting the construction of the school improvement plan supporting the use of data by site leaders and teachers facilitation of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and providing oneonone coaching to site leaders and teachers.
  13. Keep wellinformed about current trends research and best practices including participating successfully in the training programs offered to increase the individuals skill and proficiency related to the assignment.
  14. Meet regularly with teachers and administrators to review skill assessment data and to assess the outcomes of goals established by grade level teams.
  15. Prepare forms records and reports as directed.
  16. Attend meetings and trainings as directed.
  17. Perform all other duties and services assigned by the Executive Director of Secondary Leadership.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to stand talk hear walk and sit. While performing the duties of this job the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50lbs such as boxes of books and device carts. The employee is directly responsible for safety wellbeing or work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Duties are performed indoors and occasionally outdoors. This position requires travel from school to school.

Job performance is evaluated by the Executive Director of Secondary Leadership and can be placed in the personnel file at the Central Office.
