Job Description Summary:

The Director of Premedical Programs leads the School of Medicines premedical and prematriculation programs outreach activities and manages the operations of Premedical Programs. The incumbent oversees the planning implementation and assessment of events and initiatives that support recruitment advising and preparation of prospective medical students. The Director supervises the Statewide Outreach & Recruitment Specialist shares collaboration of Student Ambassadors and event oversight with the Statewide Outreach & Recruitment Specialist.

Job Duties

Premedical Programs and Events:

  • Direct the planning and implementation of premedical programs and activities across three campuses and offcampus sites including primary care workshop open houses and high school student programs.

  • Plan and implement the Premedical Student Conference twice a year.

  • Plan specific and strategic programming for Scholars in Health programs including the orientation conference and other activities as needed.

  • Plan and direct the annual Premedical Advisors Conference twice a year.

  • Plan and direct the annual White Coat Ceremony including securing vendor contracts.

  • Maintain budgets for SOM premedical events and track and maintain inventory of event materials and promotional items.

Outreach and Advising:

  • Develop and maintain effective communications and working relationships with premedical advisors statewide and regionally.

  • Advise prospective applicants on SOM admissions policies and processes.

  • Represent the School of Medicine at recruitment events and campus visits throughout Kansas and the central region.

  • Assist with internal and external communications through CRM and other platforms.

  • Work with the Associate Dean of Admissions to cover local Kanas City campus recruitment events when needed.

  • Coordinate registration of campus tours for all three campuses.

  • Coordinate and implement Open House events (inperson and virtual) for all three campuses.

Admissions and Interview Support:

  • Participate in interview days/blocks assisting with technology logistics and problem resolution.

  • Serve as back up for other Admissions team roles on interview days.

Administration and Supervision:

  • Supervise the Statewide Outreach & Recruitment Specialist.

  • Oversee development and updates of premedical program marketing and web content.

  • Maintain strong working relationships with faculty and staff across all campuses.

  • Develop the annual budget for the Office of Admissions and Premedical Programs and ensure fiscal accountability.

  • Propose and implement improvements to increase operational effectiveness and program efficacy.

  • Lead the prematriculation process for incoming students.

Interviews:

  • Participate in each interview day/block for admitting interviewees and interviewers handling technology issues and maintaining the daily schedule.

  • Help identify and resolve issues that rise during virtual interview days. Serve as backup for other Admissions team members interview day roles.

Management:

  • Work with the Wichita recruiter and the Statewide Outreach & Recruitment Specialist for Ambassador coordination on the Kansas City Wichita and Salina campuses.

  • Manage the development and updating of premedical events printed electronic and web resources used to engage with prospective and current applicants.

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with faculty and staff on the Salina and Wichita campuses.

  • Work with the Associate Dean of Admissions to increase efficacy of SOM programming.

Other:

  • Participates in Admissions Committee meetings and departmental activities.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of Admissions.

Required Qualifications

Education:

A masters degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

  • Four years of experience with a in higher education or related field.

  • Experience working effectively with faculty staff student body and community partners.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience

  • Experience advising or counseling high school or undergraduate students.

  • Five years of experience in higher education.

  • Familiarity with medical school admissions processes and CRM systems as demonstrated by application materials.

Skills

  • Computer skills including office technology.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to education experience and training qualifications relative to the requirements of the position and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
