Site/Location:Hutcherson Early learning CenterReports to:Building AdministratorDate:05/21/2025POSITION SUMMARY
    • The Assistant Principal for Early Childhood Education supports the principals in the leadership coordination and supervision of early childhood programs. This position focuses on ensuring highquality instruction fostering a safe and developmentally appropriate learning environment and promoting strong family and community engagement. The Assistant Principal works collaboratively with teachers staff and families to implement school and district goals aligned with early learning best practice
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Instructional Leadership

      • Support teachers in implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and instructional strategies.
      • Assist with analyzing student data to inform instructional practices and improve student outcomes.
      • Observe classroom instruction and provide coaching and feedback aligned with early childhood frameworks (e.g. CLASS).
      • Support Response to Intervention (RTI) and or MTSS processes for early learners.
      • Support administrators in leading the special education eligibility and SCT processes to ensure common data driven and student centered decisions.

      Student Support & School Climate

      • Promote a positive school climate.
      • Monitor student behavior and support implementation of behavioral interventions.
      • Collaborate with special education and ELL teams to ensure inclusive practices.

      Staff Supervision & Development

      • Assist in the evaluation of early childhood teachers and support staff.
      • Organize and facilitate professional development aligned with early learning standards.
      • Support onboarding and mentoring of new early childhood teachers and support staff.

      Family & Community Engagement

      • Foster partnerships with families through regular communication family events and workshops.
      • Support transitions for students entering preschool and kindergarten.
      • Collaborate with community organizations and early childhood agencies.


      Operational Management

      • Assist with scheduling staffing and daily school operations.
      • Ensure compliance with state/federal regulations (e.g. Head Start IDEA and VPI).
      • Analyze assessment data ( VALLS/VKRP) and works with building administrators and instructional coach to identify appropriate intervention strategies for PK students.
      • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
    • Masters degree in Educational Leadership Early Childhood Education Early Childhood Special Education or related field (required)
    • Valid administrative certification/licensure (required).
    • Minimum 35 years of successful teaching or leadership experience in early childhood or primary grades (preferred)
    • Strong knowledge of early childhood development curriculum and assessment (preferred)
    • Experience with family engagement special education services and inclusive practices (referred)

  • Must demonstrate leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively and cooperatively with students teachers administrators divisionlevel staff and parents/guardians in providing the best possible educational environment.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
    • In collaboration with the building Principal supervisesteachers and instructional staff.
    • Participates in the hiring process and makes hiring decisions of other employees.
    • Instructs trains coaches and mentors other employees.
    • Schedules (determine hours worked time off) reviews and monitors the work of other employees.
    • Completes written feedback and evaluations of other employees.
    • Makes recommendations and provides support for plans of improvement of other employees.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
      • Reliable transportation is necessary.
      • Travel within the City of Lynchburg as needed.
      • Travel for Professional Learning conferences and training as needed.
