Job Description

This position will assist the head basketball coach in overseeing the basketball program at Tennessee High School. Previous basketball coaching experience preferred. See job description below for more information.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelors degree preferred.
  2. Valid Tennessee teaching certificate preferred.
  3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

JOB GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

  1. To provide overall leadership supervision and coordination of the basketball program.
  2. To provide and atmosphere that promotes the development of skills necessary to allow student athletes to participate at a competitive level.
  3. To provide a basketball program that is an extension of the overall academic program at Tennessee High School.
  4. To provide a basketball program that emphasizes academics discipline high morals and team play.
  5. To provide a basketball program that builds a strong foundation that will prepare our studentathletes to become productive citizens.
  6. To provide a basketball program that promotes integrity and sportsmanship and teaches studentathletes to be aware that doing the right thing is more important than the outcome of a game.
  7. To provide a basketball program that promotes work ethic Viking Pride and a competitive nature.

PERSONAL EXPECTATIONS

  1. To be a person of high moral character and integrity.
  2. To be loyal to the head coach and the administration of Tennessee High School and Bristol Tennessee City Schools.
  3. To represent Tennessee High School and Bristol Tennessee City Schools in a professional manner when dealing with students parents community members or other schools.
  4. To maintain the integrity of Tennessee High School and Bristol Tennessee City Schools by complying with all TSSAA rules and regulations.
  5. To treat students in a dignified manner at all times and in all situations.
  6. To create a climate that emphasizes discipline and hard work on the field in the classroom and in the community.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist the head coach to evaluate and formulate an improvement plan for the overall basketball program.
  2. Provide supervision of studentathletes involved in Tennessee High Basketball.
  3. Assist the head coach with practices.
  4. Assist the head coach with coordinating all game day activities.
  5. Promote the basketball program in both the school and the community and serve as the spokesperson in the area of public relations for Tennessee High Basketball.
  6. Work cooperatively with school staff studentathletes and parents in promoting Tennessee High Basketball.
  7. Work cooperatively with coaches of other sports to ensure the overall success of Tennessee High Athletics.
  8. Perform all duties assigned by the head coach.
  9. Maintain and oversee the safety conditions of all dressing rooms facilities and equipment used by Tennessee High Basketball.
  10. Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.
  11. Enforce the code of conduct and expectations for the Tennessee High Basketball program.
  12. Perform such duties as may reasonably be assigned by the athletic director.
  13. Ensure accident/injury reports are submitted to the athletic office in a prompt manner.
  14. Assist with the development and implementation of the offseason strength and conditioning program.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This job may require lifting of objects that exceed 25 lbs. Other physical demands that may be required are:
