Description

Position Title: Athletic Communications Assistant Department: Athletics

Title of Immediate Supervisor/Leader to Whom This Position Reports: Assistant Athletics Director for Communications

*Expected Daily Work Hours: 8:00am 5:00pm *Expected Weekly Work Schedule: Monday Friday

* College offices are normally open from 8:00 AM until 5:00PM Monday through Friday. However due to the nature of responsibility to the student body individual offices or departments may have operating hours that extend beyond this period and may include evening or weekend hours. Nonexempt employees will normally work 8 hours per (any hours in excess of 40 per week) for nonexempt employees is required to be approved in advance by the department supervisor. Exempt employees will typically work at least 40 hours per week and such additional time as may be reasonably required to fulfill the obligations of their position description. Such additional work may include evenings and weekends and should be described in this document.

Summary of this position:

Support the Assistant Athletics Director for Communications with the coordination and dissemination of information concerning the athletics program. Must be passionate about recording and sharing Maryville Colleges athletic history. The incumbent will be a member of the departments athletic multimedia communications staff and report to the Assistant Athletics Director for Communications. A successful candidate demonstrates a strong work ethic high level of integrity and honesty. Candidates must have the ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends must be attentive to detail and accurate in record keeping and possess an ability to work with a diverse constituency including studentathletes parents coaches faculty staff administrators and outside contacts.

Minimum Qualifications Required: (please be specific and respond to every question; indicate none if not applicable)

Education required to ensure success in this position:

  • Bachelors degree in a relevant field preferred.

Experience required to ensure success in this position:

  • One to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience in a collegiate or professional media relations environment.

Special skills knowledge and abilities:

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of the Adobe Suite specifically InDesign and Photoshop and Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge and application of StatCrew and NCAA Genius (when available) in Volleyball Soccer Basketball Football Baseball Softball Tennis and Golf required.

License certification or registration necessary:

  • Maintain membership in CSC and TSWA

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to navigate campus/public buildings and grounds including large indoor and outdoor athletic fields and facilities.
  • May occasionally lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds.

Environmental conditions:

  • Professional office environment with interruptions and noise due to frequent visitors students faculty and staff.
  • May occasionally be exposed to varying weather conditions.

Ability to operate the following vehicles or equipment:

  • Standard office equipment: computer phone etc.

Primary duties and responsibilities (Typically 7 primary duties comprised of 80% of the responsibilities):

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability and predictable attendance is essential.   • Serve as a primary statistical coordinator ingame and historical for football volleyball basketball baseball soccer and softball.
  • Produce game notes news releases feature stories graphics and social media content.
  • Generate feature content video and other unique coverage for the official website of Maryville College Athletics as well as social media on Facebook Instagram X (Twitter) and YouTube.
  • Write previews and postgame summaries for the department website and social media channels.
  • Utilize graphics software that promotes the daily events and schedule of all 14 sport programs.Additional graphics to be created via InDesign/Photoshop as needed.
  • Arrange photography services for home athletic contests and special events while maintaining the archive of images.
  • Respond to media requests.
  • Staff home and selected CCS / SAA /NCAA tournament events; Supervise statistical crews and other event support personnel.
  • Facilitate Maryvilles social media outlets daily.
  • Design dayofgame social media previews for all inseason sports.
  • Compile statistics research historical records for Maryville College department of athletics publications Wall of Fame inductions and JD Davis awards.
  • Aid in the development of the Scots Broadcasting Network in Live Video Event Productions and Video PostEvent Interviews
  • Assist with the College communications and marketing initiates to elevate fundraising revenue generation and sponsorship sales.
  • Facilitate promotions and marketing events.
  • Develop effective relationships with all local media.
  • Distribute stats accolades and accomplishments to hometown newspapers.
  • Promote special events or service projects involving athletic contests and teams.
  • Nominate studentathletes coaches and athletics staff for recognition and awards.
  • Assists in the supervision of student assistants student workers volunteers and interns. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training student employees volunteers and interns; planning assigning and directing work; appraising performance.

Other roles/duties will be assigned as necessary to assist the College in the attainment of the goals set forth and the enhancement of a positive respectful learning environment for all staff faculty and students.
