About DEQ!
The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality is the primary regulatory agency of the government of the U.S. State of Oregon responsible for protecting and enhancing the states natural resources. Here is a video about DEQ: position will provide critical support to DEQs Materials Management Program which is focused on reducing the environmental and social impacts of materials and products throughout their full life cycle. Within Materials Management the Product Stewardship team develops and implements incentive product stewardship and extended producer responsibility programs. We work with partners statewide and beyond to pursue Oregons 2050 Vision for Materials Management and Framework for Action in order to conserve resources protect the environment and enhance wellbeing.
The Materials Management Program is part of DEQs Land Quality Division. Land Quality programs support DEQs mission through a wide range of environmental work including assessing and managing environmental cleanups safely managing the disposal of solid and hazardous wastes and responding to spills of oil and hazardous materials. What you will do!
You will coordinate Materials Management Program policy and program development for statewide processes and procedures such as new grant program design grant evaluation and reporting; contract development; grant and contract administration monitoring and tracking; and guidance development. You will lead the design development and launch of a new large grantmaking program funded by producers of packaging printed paper and food serviceware. For this new program you will lead a project team within Materials Management from the initial stages of project conception and design through launch and implementation. This will require coordinating with agency Financial Services staff participating in internal and external outreach and engagement developing standards of program operation and evaluating program impacts.
Your work will be collaborative and iterative and you will develop relationships internally across programs and with the private sector community organizations and interested parties. All of your work will be based on a foundation of equity inclusion and environmental justice.

This position will be based out of DEQs Headquarters office in Portland however the successful candidate may be eligible for hybrid work. The logistics of hybrid work will need to be worked out with the Hiring Manager prior to your hire and may be changed at any time given specific job duties and business needs. DEQ will provide necessary hardware (laptop monitor keyboard mouse and cell phone) for an employee to successfully work from home. At DEQ sites you will have access to a workspace however it may be shared with other employees.
There will be occasional travel to attend meetings seminars public hearings workshops conferences and trainings some of which may involve evening work weekend work and/or overnight stays.
