Other Conditions:Contingent on course offerings and student demand to begin approximately Fall 2025 availability of funds and actual staffing requirements. The position may be converted from 11 to 9 months or 9 to 11 months based on operational needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under general supervision design deliver and assess instruction in Medical Laboratory Technology in terms of studentlearning outcomes; develop and/or update course content and materials and teaching and assessment strategies and methods to:

    • improve student attainment of learning outcomes;

    • address the learning needs of the colleges diverse students;

    • integrate thinking and writing skills into course content as appropriate; and

    • use technology to support instruction.

  • Plan organize and independently carry out instructional and noninstructional assignments.

  • Perform other teachingrelated duties that include but are not limited to preparing course syllabi and maintaining office hours for academic advising and for conferring with students about coursework (one office hour per week per threecredit class).

  • Regular workload may include evening and weekend classes continuingeducation classes distance education classes and teaching at offcampus sites.

  • Nonteaching duties include:

    • working collegially to provide service to the department and college

    • engaging in public service related to ones professional status and/or expertise

    • engaging in professional development and

    • engaging in professional or scholarly activities related to ones discipline or teaching.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Masters degree in Health or a Healthrelated fieldANDat least three (3) years of work experience in a clinical settingANDcurrent Hawaii MLS/MLT State License;

OR

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS)ANDat least three (3) years of work experience in a clinical settingANDcurrent Hawaii MLS State License;

OR

  • Bachelors degree in any field or disciplineANDAssociates degree in Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)ANDat least three (3) years of work experience in a clinical settingANDcurrent Hawaii MLT State License.


Note:If qualified applicants are not available others will be considered on an Acting Instructor basis.


Desirable Qualifications
  • Successful teaching at the postsecondary level as substantiated by student and peer assessments

  • Experience with planning student activities delivering engaging lessons and evaluating student progress

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collegial manner with peers department chairs and administrators

  • Experience integrating writing technology and thinking skills in the teaching of MLT curriculum;

  • Demonstrated ability to write clear prose as substantiated by writing samples;

  • Successful use of technology to support instruction inside and outside of the traditional classroom.

  • Commitment to the mission and values of the community college with its opendoor and multicultural populations;

  • Demonstrated ability to initiate execute and complete projects including setting specific objectives and measuring results.

  • Evidence of commitment to Kapiolani Community Colleges vision of positioning itself as a model indigenous serving institution whose graduates strengthen the social economic and sustainable advancement of Hawaii and the world.
