Job Title: Tailor & Fashion Designer

Job Purpose:
Our client is newly set up fashion retail brand committed to empowering women through stylish functional and culturally expressive clothing. Their focus is on modern business and casual wear infused with the vibrancy of Africaninspired fabrics and aesthetics.
They are looking for a multiskilled professional who is both a creative fashion designer and a skilled tailor capable of translating ideas into garments that fit beautifully and reflect our brands Afrocontemporary identity.
Key Responsibilities:
Creative Design
- Conceptualize original designs for womens business casual and Afroinspired wear
- Translate fashion trends and cultural elements into wearable brandaligned pieces
- Develop design sketches digital flats and visual presentations for internal reviews
- Collaborate on seasonal themes color stories and textile directions
Technical Development
- Draft and modify custom patterns for a range of womens silhouettes (blazers wideleg pants midi dresses etc.)
- Build prototypes and sample garments from scratch ensuring precision and fit
- Perform detailed garment fittings and make adjustments based on feedback
- Execute clean productionready finishes with high craftsmanship
Production Support
- Create detailed tech packs including construction notes measurements and fabric specs
- Liaise with suppliers and production partners to ensure alignment on design and quality
- Oversee fabric and trim selection with a focus on both aesthetics and function
- Assist in preparing garments for retail presentation or photoshoots
Qualifications & Experience:
- At least 3 years of experience as a tailor and fashion designer preferably in a local fashion setting.
- Proficiency in garment construction cutting stitching and finishing for womens wear.
- Strong design portfolio showcasing creativity and originality.
- Ability to work with different types of fabrics and understand garment structure and sizing.
- Excellent measurement and alteration skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Ability to sketch or use basic design tools (manual or digital) to present clothing ideas.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Selfdriven organized and capable of managing multiple orders and deadlines.
