Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. Our Rapid Transit Operational Performance Office is seeking a manager responsible for Data Engineering ofRapid Transit data pipelines which includes planning development and execution of these pipelines. The manager will be responsible for data acquisition management and maintenance of data enterprise system integration and app development. The manager should have a strong background in data engineering and be able to apply that experience to develop design methodologies guide team members and ensure best practices are followed across the team.
What will I be doing
- Understand the contracts with our strategic partners with respect to operational performance monitoring.
- Establish and implement a strategic plan for the collection management and reporting of all LRT Operations data. Establish and implement a strategic plan for the collection management and reporting of data from contract workflow management tools.
- Establish and implement a data governance framework for existing internal and future external data.
- Responsible for liaising with external contractors to establish system data and reporting requirements and provide systemdriven bestinclass reporting solutions.
- Responsible for the data pipeline development maintenance and validation of all LRT Operations data.
- Develop automation tools using PowerApps and PowerAutomate.
- Establish and implement strategies for improving data quality from various data owners.
- Ensures alignment between RT Operations and other divisional reporting groups.
- Ensures technical staff are proficient in the latest reporting tools visualization software database management and data validation and analysis.
- Liaises with external partners (particularly the TTC and Project Co.) to gather data from LRT lines and negotiates access to data based on business needs.
- Develops and manages reporting policies and procedures including a data governance framework.
- Monitors operational and business performance to ensure that Metrolinx receives value for money from its vendors.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need
- Completion of a degree in Computer Engineering Computer Science or a related discipline or a combination of education training and experience deemed equivalent.
- Experience in data engineering software development app development or backend web design.
- Demonstrated experience in the development implementation and verification of a data pipelines and reporting systems with experience managing administrative activities/programs/services.
- Knowledge of data collection and management strategies standards policies and best practices.
- Experience with CI/CD processes particularly within Azure.
- Strong partnership building relationship management and collaboration skills to work effectively with business units and internal and external stakeholders to collect data and resolve data quality issues.
- Strong analytical statistical analysis and problemsolving skills to validate data quality and analyze performance results for a variety of audiences.
- Experience building data pipelines using a varied toolset SQL Python Azure Data Factory Azure Databricks REST API etc.
- Experience building dashboards in Tableau or Power BI or comparable visualization tools.
- Leadership management and strong organizational skills to guide a high performing team.
- Verbal and written communication skills to prepare and present documentation reports proposals and briefings.
